Title: Seleucid Argyraspides
Post by: Atheling on 20 February 2025, 10:15:25 AM

This little lot, plus more, were due to take part in a display game at a well known wargame show but the game has been cancelled. Still, they look quite pretty and although I'm not quite as far as I wanted to be with the units (the painted army consists of one unit of Seleucid Argyraspides and Antigonus the One Eyed!) it would be a shame not to document the miniatures.

My last blue backdrops got wet (printer ink) so I've had to produce some ad hoc backgrounds for the photo's. If anyone knows of a full A4 blue background file anywhere, please do let me know as I'm in desperate need of one as you can see!

Excellent work as always.  I'm always fascinated with how you paint deep shadows and make it look so natural.

Those look incredible, very clean and crisp painting, well done! I've also got the same polemarch models for my Seleucids nearing completion and yours definitely inspire me to finish them up! How did you find they painted up? I got a bit delirious after painting the 20th something cloak lol

Love the bald, one-eyed leader.  I am pretty sure more Greeks look more like him than Brad Pitt!

Great job.  These were always my favorite of the the Polemarch pikes.  I have modified monopthalmus to be a standard bearer in this unit.

Wow, beautiful job! The uniforms look great, so colourful compared to how I imagine the rank and file troops looked. Benefits of rank!

Thank you for the goodly words guys :)

You know, I'm not sure I can even answer that question- I'm so used to painting this way it is just my natural "way" if that makes sense?

How did you find they painted up? I got a bit delirious after painting the 20th something cloak lol

They were a little tricky TBH, not quie as crisp as Aventine miniatures but plenty of character all the same. BTW, I was somewhat delirious re: cloaks too!

i'm just beginning my painting of a Justinian force with your beautiful units as a model, ever wondering how to approach your art and I'm not a bad painter. And now you let loose these new Hellenistics, which are one of my next project. Atheling... you are my nemesis!

Thank you Pallard. I'm sure your work is great- please do post it up when you get it to the finishing point, I'd love to see it.

Very imposing unit. Anyone would have second thoughts of messing with them! Just need to go back and paint over those connecting tubes on the sarissas…
