And Bob is back with another stupid idea... lol
I've always liked the idea of Eldar Exodites, and don't think it ever really got properly explored, at least while I was still I terested in 40k.
I have decided to make an Exodite force from old Rogue Trader scouts, and was hoping to have them supported by a few raptor riders to show the more feral, lower tech aspect.
Can anyone suggest a source that would lend itself to this? Thinking more riders than lizards, as they seem quite easy.
I am having trouble finding anything that would look right with minimal conversion, and still have that RT vibe to it.
Thought about repurposing jetbike riders, but the new plastics don't scale well...
Any ideas? ???

What sort of terrain are we talking about? Steppe, desert, tundra?
-
Oh, good shout, in my head it's kind of a wood-elf sort of vibe, so temperate, forested...
-
Just looked in an old journal and their suggestions were old metal jetbike riders or using dark elf legs and bodies with wood elf heads. I wonder if anyone's done a 3d printed version?
-
Yeah; 3rd edition WHFB woodelf torso's with any kind of elf/eldar rider legs would be my first suggestion too. How do you want to arm them?
-
Yeah, I had been looking at that kind of thing but the bits aren't cheap these days. If could find some decent bodies I might be able to monkey some arms and heads together from the bits box...
Re armament, ideally some kind of laser-lance but general eldar pistols, rifles and swords would do.
-
If you're ok with the aesthetic, you could go for 4th/5th edition Wardancers for torsos instead. They all have their arms spread out wildly, so conversion from swords to shuriken pistols etc should be really straightforward.
Also; they're still to be had really cheap too. I've been assembling my 'army that got away', 4th ed Wood Elves, for the past few months, and aside from the plastic archers, what pops up the most and cheapest are the Wardancers. If you take your time, you can easily bag 10 of them for €30,- still.
And how about 3rd ed 40K plastic Dark Eldar legs? Several of the poses would be perfect for a rider and others can easily be reposed. Also; cutting away the overtly pointy bits should make them suitable for Exodites. And lots of Dark Eldar bits can still be found aplenty too. Often badly painted, but as you'll only need the legs, you can afford to not be picky...
-
If you’re looking at temperate/woodland, what about Dark Elf Cold One riders? I’d second the Dark Eldar plastics, though - lots of splayed leg positions suitable for mounted troops.
-
Thanks guys, I've managed to nab a bundle of cheap Kabalites to play about with so once they and my mounts arrive I'll see if we can mash them together effectively.
Many thanks for the suggestions. :D

If you google Eldar Exodites, there are some amazing conversions done with Lizardmen from fantasy. With the new book out I was briefly headed down this path, too lol

The Dark Elf drake riders make excellent cavalry for exodites (sorry about the length of the EBay link):

I've tried it myself and they just need a dark eldar torso and weapons.

I found these, might be nice mounts for Exodites but cost wise depends how many you want:

The RT jetbike rider legs fit well on the Marauder Cold Ones.

I am now asking myself why I never even heard of this company before! They have so many minis I have (and had ::) ) a use for, and they're all really nice too!

If you don't mind moving away from the GW figures - what about using the new Oathmark Elf Cavalry as a base for the riders? They're have seperate legs/torso's already so you could just swap in the torso of your choice if you wanted?
-
Thanks for the ideas, guys.
I have no doubt that some of your suggestions would look the part, the issue I have is how they would scale up to older RT era figures.
-
If you have a 3d printer (or a mate with one) there are a few options such as those below. The beauty of 3d printing is you can scale the size up and down to fit other minis as needed.

The Oathmark figures I mentioned are of the 'wargaming 28mm' size rather than the 'heroic 28mm' (cough, 32mm) variety. They should scale quite well with some of the earlier GW 28's.
