I thought you might be interested in these guys, the start of (yet another) unit of Imperial cuirassiers. The conversions are by Brian Rigelsford, the painting by Andrew Taylor who also took the photo.

You thought well Paul :)
Very inspiring project, as all the miniatures you show us from this period, thanks for sharing!
-
Just fantastic Paul :-* :-* :-* :-* :-*
In another life, my entire collections will be converted by Brian and painted by Andrew! :)
-
Very nice
-
Many thanks. The unit will be of 32 riders and horses. Andrew has all the figures and he's painting them as and when my funds allow.
-
What figures/range are the conversions based on?
-
I can't answer this question, I'm afraid, so I've asked Brian. I suspect the riders are a real mixture with bits from all over - a hand from here, legs from there etc. Some at least will be Bloody Miniatures. Many of the horses are Perry WoTR draught horses.
-
They really have a superb hold, the unit will look very nice and very impressive on a gaming table. ;)
-
They'll never make it to the gaming table. I'm a collector and I don't game.
-
That's right Paul! You already told me that. ;)
-
Well, it shows what I know! Brian tells me that the riders are mainly Empress TYW (ex Bohemian Troops) with TAG boots. The horses are indeed Perry WotR draught horses with TAG pistol holsters.
-
Exceptional :-*

We should try it some time, Paul ;)
And despite what Brian says, I think I recognise at least a couple of Bloody cuirassier torsos and legs under there, post Brian's tender ministrations.
-
Thanks, Richard. Brian has made a unit using just Bloody Miniatures cuirassier figures which I'll be sending off to Andrew at some stage.

Oh man, I cannot wait to see those! Paul, your TYW stuff has easily been my favourite "army" since the heady says of the Steve Dean forum (when it was an actual forum) :)

Darrell: many thanks. With the Bloody Miniatures cuirassiers, we went, for once, for figures in combat poses. Brian did two little units, each of about a dozen figures. One is cuirassiers in 3/4 armour and the other is heavy cavalry in helmets, breast and back plates with buff coats. I wanted them to be in a melee, cuirassiers against the rest, but my main problem was finding enough horses in the right poses without too much duplication. I spent quite a lot of time looking around last year at what is available. My conclusion was that there are some perfect horses around, mainly from Warlord, but I couldn't find enough different ones, and so put the project on hold. I came across some horses from Reconquista Designs which I thought were great, but they were resin and just too fragile - they looked like they would break just by looking at them.

The sheer love and attention to detail by you, Brian and Andrew is very clear to me; on each and every set of mini's you have had completed. And, just so inspiring.

I'm going through something similar to a much smaller degree as I need a Nikephorian Byzantine General and Standard Bearer which are different from the rank and file etc so have settled on V&V for the characters but metal horses from Aventine (a wee bit early and fancy but hey, a Stategos can afford such delights! My worry is that the resin "riders" are eventually going to die a death so I can only hope they survive the tabletop for long enough to justify the joy trhey will bring :)
-
Darrell: many thanks for your kind comments. I hope your general and standard bearer are successful. I admit that I have very little experience of resin figures. I bought some Avanpost ones a few years ago, and I was put off resin by the fact that I had some breakages just assembling them. I may be worrying unnecessarily, I don't know. Because I don't game, my figures are hardly handled at all and perhaps they'd be OK. I'd welcome any thoughts / experiences anyone would like to share on how durable resin figures are.

No, I fear your worries are justified Paul. V&V resin has some give in it but I think is weak compared to even plastics. Still, If they survive the weekend they are meant for they can retire to one of my dis-play cases and I'll get someone to convert something metal at some point in the future- pointless me trying as all I manage is "blob men" lol. Really, they're awful :D
-
Excellent cuirassiers, beautiful sculpts and paint job.

Many thanks, Paul.

Many thanks. Here are a few more figures, hot off Andrew's painting desk.
-
They're lovely
-
The sculpts are sublime and the brush-work is excellent

Beautifully naturalistic posture on the horses and Cuirassiers. So far ahead of my blob men conversions that is boggles my mind. :-* :-* :-* :-* :-*
The painting is sublime, as ever, from Andrew. One day Mr Richardson, you are going to have to let me see this collection in person- it would be well worth the trip!
-
Truly superb! Bravo to the painter... ;)
-
Many thanks for the kind comments.
Darrell: keep trying with the conversions. Remember, Brian has been sculpting figures for decades.

I will mate. :)

Great work, especially the horses, great poses and brush work.
Paul
-
Many thanks. Most of the horses are converted from Perry WotR draught horses, which can be bought in packs of 4.
-
Here are a few more of the same.
-
Wonderful works of art :-* :-* :-* :-* :-*
-
A very nice unit ! ;)
-
Love the colour of the armour; just superb.

Agreed. Very very nice

The whole "unit" is an artistic phenomenon :-* :-* :-* :-* :-*
I love the conversions (Kudos to Brian) and the brushwork wonderful. IMHO, the true ideal of what can be achieved (I do not use these words lightly)
-
Thank you all for the very generous comments. Much appreciated.
-
Yet more of the same.
-
Splendid!
-
absolutely superb...
-
They are delightful
-
Yet more brilliance! :-* :-* :-* :-* :-*
-
Many thanks for the kind comments.
-
I particularly like the chap turning in his saddle.
How many will there be in the finished unit, Paul?
-
Richard: I really like the chap turning in the saddle, and I specifically asked Brian to produce a figure in this pose. I am not, however, sure how true to life it is. I think I read somewhere that cuirassiers wore straps under their armour which restricted twisting and turning. But I don't care......
The unit will eventually have 32 figures including standard bearers, trumpeters and officers.
-
Quite right - it's a lovely pose.
Gosh, 32 figures :o That's a heck of a unit.
One day I would love to come and view your collection :)
-
I do prefer bigger units, and my infantry units are 40+ figures. I think it's because having bigger units means you can get a better proportion of ordinary soldiers to officers, standard bearers, trumpeters etc.
Please get in touch if you're in our area (for obvious reasons you know where I live) and we'll see if we can fix something up. :)
-
Here are yet more.
-
Beautiful :-*
-
They really are amazing
-
Many thanks. Here are a few more.
-
Is that the Warlord Arthur Haselrig I see second from the left? A lot of character in that one.
-
Great work! :-* :-*
-
Basin is Back: yes, it is. His legs have been lengthened a bit, but basically the same figure.
