Title: Lion Rampant...
Post by: Harry Faversham on 07 March 2025, 06:42:36 PM
Just gleaned a copy from the Bazaar. How can I build a retinue of both Vikings and Saxons, also anybody had a pop at it solo?
 ???

Do you have 1st or 2nd edition?  Ultimately it will work fine - just use heavy and light infantry for your shield wall and elite for your hearthguard.  Skirmishers can be scouts.

You will need 5-6 units in the two retinues so about 60 figures.

The Men Who Would be Kings has an AI opponent in it you could look to adapt.  Even without that the command dice failures lead to enough chaos that simply switching sides is usually sufficient.

Both the 1st and 2nd editions have sample retinues for Vikings and Saxons, so use those.
LR plays fine as a solo game as is. As mentioned above, the activation system builds in enough randomness that you just switch from one side the other.

Sounds good chaps, it's the first edition I got. Looking forward to Sunday... the Vikings are coming!
