Title: SOURCES FOR PIRATE SCENARIOS?
Post by: Pan Marek on 09 March 2025, 03:32:47 PM
Just as the title says, lads.  I play Blood & Plunder in its original, late 17th century period.  Their books have potted scenarios, but I've been looking for something a bit less generic, and perhaps more "historical".  I don't necessarily mean big battles, but more along the lines of what the various protagonists actually did to each other.  I also play AWI skirmish a lot, and there's a treasure trove of skirmishes to draw from.

Anything like that for 1660-1699 in the Caribbean?  I've been searching the internet, and have only discovered a couple from League of Augsburg.
Thanks!

League of Augsburg do a bunch. Rupert’s expedition to the Gambia, Morgan’s attack on Panama, plus others like the one in Donnybrook at Sea with Dutch v Portuguese

Whilst not piracy per say, and not in the Caribbean, there were a few sea borne expeditions around North America during King Williams  War that could probably be reskinned?

Worth reading the Hornblower books.   Not pirates admittedly and set during the  Napoleonics…but there are many descriptions of small actions including cutting out expeditions, prize crews,  taking out gun batteries, laying sieges, dragging ships guns ashore, disguising of ships and many others, all of which could be used in pirate games no doubt…

Good ideas.  Thanks.
I too was thinking of "going back to the books", so pulled out my copies of Osprey's "Buccaneers",  the book "Empire of Blue Water" and a cheapo compilation of stories and first hand accounts of the golden age.   I then ordered the book "The Sacking of Panama" and one on piracy around St. Augustine, FL (which was raided multiple times).
