Hello everybody, I would like to hear what you guys think of Foundry's Darkest Africa "Limpopo Jones". I just finished him except the base and a small black dot on his shirt which I have to correct). I'm always on the lookout for more tips and tricks.
Here are the pictures:

That looks really good and shows your own style . I dont think I could give you any advice on how to improve it.
Keep up the good work.

He looks very professional and deadly. Somehow with your paint you have communicated the idea that he is VERY likely to ventilate that at which he aims.
Nice.

Er, which black dot on his shirt do you intend to correct?
I find it kind of strange that the white shirt would be shaded in black, while the darker color of his pants is shaded in a less contrasting brown. I'm not a fan of using black as the shadow color, but if you're going to do it, I think it would be better if you did it uniformly.
That said, I think you'd be better off shading your white with either grey, very light blue, or a very light tan.

Hi Mancha, on the first picture there is a very small dot in black, right above the belt. A little bit of paint spilled. I wasn't planning to shade in black however. Deepest shade is scorched brown.

Very nice paint job 8)

looks good to me
you have a very defined style

Looks good to me 8) Like Mancha I'm not a big fan of overshading on light colours but when it's done well it looks stylish.
A bit of flora on the base would be an improvement.
-
I like it :) ok I not a fan of these overshading but every painter has his own style .
again ...
I LIKE THE FIGURE PLEASE MORE OF THEM :)
cheers Grimm

Overshading is what I do best ;)
So I like him.
He'd look better if he wasn't shiny - but that might just be the flash on your camera. Or maybe you like shiny. Some people do...
-
Hi Captain Blood. You should see him now, with gloss varnish on him ;) . But I personally hate shiny models. I have to give him his final varnish, which is matt. I think the figure is shiny in these pics because of the flash indeed. Normally it will be adapted when it is completely finished.
Thank you all for the kind comments and the idea about the overshading. It indeed comes out a bit brutally here. Will work on it in the future.

Next mini:

What do you think ? Little note: The stick of the whip, the shoes and the base yet have to be finished. Stick will be in wood colour, shoes will get a dark flesh highlight and the base will be some mumbo-jumbo mixing of colours ;-)

What do you think ?
Nice mini, but how about cropping your pics a bit? People probably don't find your walls that interesting.
-
really well painted! It would look even better with a bit matt varnish.
-
Clean and tidy paintwork, nice colours, that's the way to go 8)
-
I can't really add anything to what's already been suggested - these are very clean, tidy paintjobs.
And the pictures are good and clear, but I agree with Dolmot, they need cropped in tighter to the subject. Also, to reduce shine (even from matt varnished figures) try building yourself a light box to photograph things in. Its really easy to do.
On the whole though, top job, I'm liking them a lot. :)
-
I like this guy a lot. Lots of character.
-
Thanks everybody. Dolmot, Jollybob, I'll check to crop the pictures. I thought it was a nice wall, no ? :P
Jollybob, I'll also look into the making of a light box, as you suggested.
I have 14 more of these explorers to paint up, together with 5 African characters. Sad part is, I'm a slow painter...
