We use a our own rules for solo or cooperative gaming for ww1. You can use the current scenarios or create your own. But it is in German.
The rules are designed for micro skirmish games, usualy 3 own miniatures against maximum 10 opponent. You can play trench raids, rescue missions, night missions...

Thanks, I was though looking for commercial rulesets. I have found a few:

-Scouts Out
-Blood & Valor
-One-hour Skirmish Wargames

Have yet to decide which to go for. It would be interesting to see the scenarios you play?

Have you looked at Trench Hammer and Through the Mud and Blood - the second may be slightly larger scale of game.

I'd also suggest a look at 0200 - would expect it would be good at the stealth elements.

Scouts Out! is fairly decent.

Fistful of Lead is also worth a look.  You can play anything with it, and still have it feel right.

Thanks Maniac,

I am considering that one, also Firelock Games Blood & Valor. Decisions, decisions... :)

We playing small storys, for example the rescue of Paul Bäumer from the book "All Quiet on the Western Front" after he was missing during an night patrol.
The task is to find Paul and give him a save way back to the own lines.

I would second the suggestion for Trench Hammer 🙂.

There are quite a few accounts on LAF of people using Chain of Command for the Western Front.

Have a search through the archive, there are plenty of examples, most with photos of the games in progress.

One of the Lardie Specials has a conversion/ additions for CoC for WWI - using the Lardie Through the Mud and Blood as a base IIRC.

Now hear me out here.

I have often thought that an adaptation of Space Hulk would be great for WWI trench raids. With the Raiders being the Marines.

Thanks for your comment. I have never played Space Hulk. What makes it suitable you think?

In Space Hulk you have a group of marines exploring the narrow corridors and rooms of unknown spaceships while being assaulted by genestealers that spawn in at various points. And each turn has a time limit on it, so you have to think on your feet and prioritize what to do first before time runs out and it is the opponents turn. The claustrophobic corridors and endless enemies would translate well to WWI trench raid I feel.

The spawning could be useful for solo play maybe  :)

Funny you mention Space Hulk…

I’ve had this on my mind as a possibility for around 10-15 years, since I bought a copy the re-released game a few years back. Still never played the game and most of it is still in the cellophane..

But it immediately got me thinking about a trench version, whether historical or weird, it would work well I think.

It must be a case of great minds think alike.

Tabletop Games had a set of trench raid rules many years ago called Trench!
