Title: Adams Medieval Battle
Post by: adamsfantasticminiatures on April 03, 2025, 09:35:19 PM
I am new to the forum, but here goes some of my medieval painting efforts, more in my gallery of all sorts! Almost all virtually medieval (1970s) Essex miniatures. Forgive the last one, English medieval knights vs dragons, but St George definitely fought a dragon?(Im on thin ice, as he was Turkish anyway?) Have a good weekend!

Sorry, mate, but you didn't get it right.  You need three more figures in that unit on the right!

Many thanks for your comments. I collected most of these figures a very long time ago, and only recently have a i had a chance to put paint on them. Back then the idea was to have an army for wargaming, although I never did, I just liked the figures.  Here are some more pics, slightly different setup. I like the Essex figures, they have a sort of rustic, worried look facially that fits the poor peasant levies pretty well.

Welcome to the forum 👍🏻

Great collection, it’s always good to have another medieval gamer posting their stuff.

Thanks for posting, it's a great collection and very colourful. I have a big soft spot for the Essex medievals.

Thanks for your comments! I have put a couple more setups on my You Tube channelhttps://www.youtube.com/@adamsfantasticminiatures , Medieval Battles the Third and Medieval Battle Yeomans view, both mostly Essex medievals. These are not meant to be  recreated real battles, but hopefully convey some idea of a cavalry charge and the view an ordinary footsoldier might have had. probably the colours are too bright for reality, but if medieval chivalry can't be colourful, what can. Hope you like them, below are some stills;

These are great!

So good to see big armies and also not a commonly seen range of figures (at least these days).

You mentioned photography challenges, and I often find taking photos of lots of minis is hard - I think it is in part down to the difficultly in lighting them well, I'm not certain what you are using for a light source, but its certainly leaving a lot of the background in shadow - which for the dungeon photos if quite effective. Perhaps get a light or two to add in some more light in the background, also a simple reflector (a white piece of card works quite well) can help get light where you want it. And finally a tripod can help as it allows longer exposure times - but nearly always more light is better!
