What rules would you recommend for Star Wars ground battle games?
Something with about 30-40 models per side with maybe 3 or 4 vehicles each.
Please don't say Xenos Rampant - it's woeful and broken.
Any and all other suggestions are welcome.

Have you looked at Fistful of Lead: Bigger Battles?

Yes,that's what we use too. You can play interlinked games with character figures using Galactic Heroes or Core Ffol rules, then scale up for squads using Bigger Battles. You can also throw some space combat in with Starfighters. I know Wiley Games have run some convention games doing just that.

Someone posted a Chain of Command Star Wars report just a day or two ago; those rules would make for a fun change to the “usual” Star Wars sets, I’d say.

We’ve used One Page Rules: Grimdark Future rules for Star Wars games and have enjoyed them.

My son and I have not tried vehicles yet, but Fistful of Lead: Bigger Battles works great. It helps to also have Galactic Heroes for the Templar (Jedi) rules.
My son has CIS Droids and I have Republic Clones. We've played both Galactic Heroes and FFoL:BB with them (squad size is 4-8, depending on type, with Droidekas being 2 per squad).
It plays pretty well, and with the Templar (i.e. Jedi) rules, it will feel just like Star Wars.

A bit left field (well very) how about the Iron Cross WWII rules from great escape games?
I know they are a WWII set so will need work on special rules but the core activation mechanism feels it could work very well for Star Wars. And the core stats are pretty straight forward, so should be OK to map across.

I’m using (admittedly with half painted forces :o ) Chain of Command for platoon stuff (30-40 a side) - pretty easy to convert but there are also other peoples force organisation lists out there already, and Spectre v2 for the individual heroic stuff (but I’m not really Jedi heavy) though it can be quite brutal. Tomorrow’s War would work (or the newer version whatever it’s called) might even try using Rogue Trader - hadn’t considered this before but should work well with figure count….hmmmmm……

You could look up Holocron D6 it has all the old West End Games rules & supplements including the original Star Wars Miniature Battles game, all 100% legit legally avaliable the owner of the D6 system which these rules were played under, years ago basicly went whoever wants it can have it and released it as open source. Its had some udates past year or so, so the almost 40 yr old Star Wars Wargame system which includes Star Warriors, still has an active Facebook and game design.
It covers upto Platoon level, it does have vehicle rules in an expansion I think which may or maynot work, but all the heros ca be converted from the D6 RPG into wargame terms.

I should have said the original West End Star Wars rules as that’s in my rules pile aswell (although haven’t played it for years).
Thank you for that link AdmiralAndy didn’t know it existed.
