Title: Oshiro Ship Bits Needing a Hull
Post by: Sakuragi Miniatures on 13 April 2025, 02:58:28 AM
I was going through the Oshiro VSF collection and saw they have all the deck accoutrements for an old steam ship. Has anyone used these and if so, where did you get a ship deck/hull to mount them on?

These are nice!

I've seen people use a flat token to represent ships' decks, I think these would still work in that instance, to add a little pop?

You could raise the deck slightly, say a centimetre all round and say the ship is low on the waterline, or maybe half sunk, that would make an interesting and unusual base for games.

Alternatively what about a "loaded" Whaleback ship? that would be largely underwater:

What size is the bridge? I've got an old Lego ship - which is quite long and narrow - I wonder if these would go well on that?

It is quite a tall hull though - though I suppose would represent an unloaded ship.

Scratch build your own. Easy to do. Cut out a basic hull shape from a thick balsa beam or foam. sand it back a bit and then clad with thin plastic card or cardboard. Sewing pins will hold the cladding in place  and double as rivets.  You can scribe planking on to the deck if you fancy. Model ship makers sell all kinds of nautical impedimentia in various sizes like anchors, davits and the like. Anchor chains are readily sourced in craft stores. Small washers bought at hardware outlets make great scuttles/portholes.

I built a three foot long Sand Pebbles type gunboat doing just this many moons ago. Got rid of it when I moved house otherwise I'd have been happy toshow you what you can do with not a great deal of effort.

It's a shame, I'd like to see how you did it.
