So I started re-collecting Eldar when they came out a month (?) maybe two ago. First pic is the acquisition stack. Second pic is a spare Eldrad I had, and testing of paint scheme for a take on Craftworld Iybraesil.
-
Urk! :o The new Eldar are beautiful - shame my long term opponent seems to have given up on his Eldar army as my Squats thoroughly enjoyed whupping them!
What are your plans? (Bar building a bunker from the boxes lol ). Any particular favourite colour scheme? Are they for use in current 40k and/or something else? Anything missing still on the wishlist?

I had someone accuse me of taking a photo of the back of a GW stock room lol.
I’m missing HOWLING BANSHEES. Had them in my cart - they sold out by the time I clicked through. Grrrrr.
There’s an old Craftworld Iybraesil that is grey-turquoise-magenta sort of. I like that idea. I used to have Biel Tan in 2nd edition, and wanted to do something brighter?
All the models are current. The Eldrad was given to me by the dude I’m doing the Necrons for, it had a broken staff. Fixed it, figured it would make a good test model to slap some paint on.
-
Holy moly, that's a lot of stuff. :D Very cool. Eldar are always pretty, and GW are rather smart about not changing them from the timelessly cool (almost) initial designs.
-

I’ve been in GW stock rooms and they are never that well stocked or tidy! lol I like the colour scheme, very fitting. In all my years of 40k I’ve never struggled to find an Eldar opponent, 2 of 5 of my childhood gaming friends had them so I stuck to the stunty path! The new models are excellent - easily some of the best GW has done - and I agree with Sigur that we’re lucky GW hasn’t ruined (imo) the recent iterations with overly crowded digital design like many or the others (more is less GW!).
Looking forwards to seeing what you do with them.

Please tell me that was acquired over time, and you just started adding more again, and not the moment after you sold a kidney. That's a lot of Eldar.
-
This was all acquired since the new codex came out, so … a few months? of buying? This is what my Necrons commission paid for! :D
Agree that the aesthetic has been maintained, and that the Eldar will always look “classic”. Very much the reason I took to them again. I had an Orks army but sold it in December last year (I played it once…).
Now that I have done the majority of the Necrons army, I have a new group that I can play with. Where I live there isn’t much for gaming apart from 40k, so I’ll just join them and have fun!

I hope you show us how it comes along then!
-
This will be the place!
I have a gap in the commission so can paint stuff for myself for a while
-
Finished the spare Eldrad, in what will be my Craftworld Iybraesil colour scheme. Practiced on a few things like gems and fast non metallic metals. Base will be not this when I paint the army, so I left it black and with the ruins under foot.
-
Very nice.
-
Amazing. Great work on that.
I also like how your cupboard can avoid the laws of physics lol
-
Thanks! :D
The pile of Eldar was so heavy it shifted the house lol
-
Just awesome. Those colours scream Eldar to me. What’s next on the painting list?

Thanks so much!
Next up: Guardians. First box I’ll open.
-
Nice work :)
But you've got quite a long road to walk yet, judging by all those boxes. Will you be painting all of those? And if so; how many points would that equate to?
The chosen paint scheme does remind me of the one I chose for my (3rd ed) Dark Eldar (https://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=129921.msg1848593#msg1848593). Which is a good thing, obviously ;)

I may have gone all-out picking up these Eldar - so many boxes o_o
Your DE look great! Turquoise and pink just work well together!

Colour graphics adapter?

That's a lovely colour test Eldrad! Good luck with the project :)

Many thanks! The Guardians will be a more accurate representation of the “army as a whole” as they’ll be simpler.
This Eldrad was broken, had two coats of primer, and needed cleanup before I painted him. But a good practice piece!

One of six Harlequin Jetbikes done, as a test for the other five.
Commission work… it never seems to end…
-
If you don’t want so much commission work, quit doing such a good job at it! ;)
Seriously though, that jet bike looks amazing, well done! The eldar will be a striking looking force if the rest are on that level.

Thanks! :D These aren’t even mine - mine will be “better”.
Ironically, the client asked me to tone down the tan parts to just gold to match what his prior painter did. Uh, easy. I can so do that. lol
-
Revised “I love goooooold” model
-
Another commission piece.
How cool is this: an old school second edition era metal Eldar dreadnought. Was painted with about three layers of paint, but a soak in acetone seems to have taken the most of it off. This will be a lot of fun to reassemble and repaint as a Harlequin themed dread.
-
Nice, always loved those old metal dreads, enjoy :D
-
All six of the bikes finished a day early for pickup. Pretty happy with the result: somewhat uniform, all unique though. Nose patterns are cool, I think. Loads of colour, which was fun.
-
Wow!! Is that checkerboard pattern hand painted...?? :o
Mike Demana
-
Those look phenomenal.
-
Those bikes are outstanding! And exactly how (in my head at least) Eldar should look.
-

Thanks all - and yep, hand painted! Totally each one is unique. I start with a flat brown, really thin, build an outline, and work up through five or so layers to an orange!
I masked them off to airbrush the highlights - the only “mechanical” part on these bikes.
Client is picking them up today!
-
They look great as a bunch, well done that man.

Finished this metal 2nd ed Dread “wraithlord”; sword is hand made from plasticard.
-
Love the paintjob. Must have taken you hours!
I always remember seeing a Harlequin Dread with a harlequin jetbike for the head. Great old school 'Eavy Metal.

Thanks! It did take a bit lol - I wish I had a jetbike to convert it! Those are so rare now. But 100% cool
-
Lovely Old School dreadnought :) . They can often be too "diamond-checked" but you've kept it to a nice level :) .

Many thanks! It is indeed a fine line between just enough and too much diamonds for the Harlequin theme!
-
Round two, this time a modern plastic model.
All base colours done. Now on to making it look cool. o_o
-
I had to match someone else’s basing style - some kind of all over white.
I made a mix of Golden brand fine pumice gel (which is light grey), added Vallejo White Primer, and some White Ashes pigment flakes for a bit of texture. Applied with art spatulas, and a thick brush to take away any peaks.
-
Just a couple of Wraithlord dudes, hanging out being Wraithlord dudes.
-
So you're going to play on a ....snowy table?
These absolutely look the part; very cool. :)

Thanks Sigur! High praise from a master like you :D
Not mine - they are commission pieces, and I think the original batch (that painter bailed for whatever reason), started with snow bases. Probably ease of basing. So snow it is!
Thanks!

So the guy I’m doing the Harlequins commission for gave me two 3D printed Falcons.
Problem: they were NOT cured. Whoever did the print for him, did him no favours. There was liquid resin INSIDE one of the models. I know because a brittle part opened up to a river of the goop. Which also smells terrible.
So I contacted my buddy who does a lot of 3D printing (and his company actually has sold most of his physical line to Crooked Dice!).
Solution: pure actetone bath, followed by UV cure in the sun (since I don’t have a UV tent). It’s been epically raining here, so I had to wait until this morning, when the sun woke me up - hooray.
And wow, it WORKED. I’m always leery of what acetone does. It eats stuff, it reacts, it’s flammable, don’t drink it… it’s nasty.
Using a paint tray base (the thick kind that you put a tray in when house painting), I put a generous amount of acetone (pure, industrial) in the reservoir. Tested a small part of a turret. And … looks like no eating.
Dunked them and toothbrush scrubbed them, let them dry, and then put them in the sun for about an hour. No more sticky print!
Ready to prime.
-
Sticky prints can be a big problem - I had some open up soon after I got them and very messy cleanup involved. These days, no matter where I get them from, I routinely put them out on an open window for several hours just to be sure.
-
I am very happy to hear that the problem was resolved!
-

I let these sit for two days before I acetoned them. I’m lucky I had an expert on text to be able to help me sort it.
Now they are primed!
-
It was a beautiful sunny day, so I cut some stencil masks, and then got on my Harley and went for a glorious twisty roads ride. lol
-
Using my Iwata Kustom CS airbrush, I applied:
- AK Gen 3 Rus Blue Light base
- AK Gen 3 Grey Blue added to the base and thinned with AK Acrylic Thinner
- AK Gen 3 Pastel Blue with more thinner to get to the highest level
Let these fully dry now for the afternoon, and then I’ll apply a quick gloss varnish inter-coat before going on to work purples into the scheme.
-
Work up from basic airbrush to adding hand cut frisket stencils, and then some highlights. Also used a glaze airbrush layer to make shading easier.
-
Wow! The colors on those turned out amazing... :-*

Thanks so much, Mike! I’m pretty happy with the purple on blue; I used Createx Wicked Colours for the purple - it’s normally an airbrush paint for doing goalie masks/gas tanks/automotive so the pigments are really deep. It’s the first time I’ve used the Createx on miniatures
-
One down, three to go. For the cockpit, I used something different. It’s called (oddly) “Turbo Dork” and it has to be applied over black base. Gives a neat iridescent effect. The cockpits were all painted black anyway to start with.
Overall, happy to get one done and now can work with the others.
-
They look excellent. That screams ‘eldar’ paint scheme to me - I find myself subconsciously obsessed with purple whilst painting: it creeps in everywhere! I like the canopy edge/highlighting.

More great work. The gems have turned out nicely.
-
Thanks guys! Really appreciate the kind comments!
-
One last time
-
Another try
-
That worked. They look quite flashy, as eldar tend to be!
-
Almost done! I had to match a style and colour scheme from another painter, which I think I did (close enough!), and basing style.
The bases need to dry and then be edged in black, matte varnish applied and the first nine will be done.
-
The last of the Harlequins commission! 10 troupers, a mix of metal, finecast (ugh), and new plastic.
-
Here’s the first finished unit. Storm Guardians (more assault type Eldar).
Base: Vallejo Desert Tan
Contrast: armour, Iyanden Yellow; helmets, Talassar Blue; weapons, Black Templar
Build up colours:
Yellow: AK Deep Yellow with Pastel Peach, highlighted with Pastel Yellow
Blue: AK paint pen Blue RAL5001
Bases: snow mix, Golden Fine Pumice Gel with AK ash waste white dust, and white Vallejo primer; edged black.
Tufts: Gamer’s Grass Icy Blue
-
Very cool. This makes me want to make a small exodite force
-

Dino-Eldar! Thanks - you should do it!
-
Wave Serpent finished in a similar manner to the Storm Guardians; more airbrush work. Canopy is open-able, top turret moves and elevates.
-
Nice painting.

Impressive!
I consider painting surfaces yellow very difficult (smooth finish I mean).

-
First of the Aspect Warriors. Warp Spiders!
Keeping with tying these in to Iyanden, I made the helmets yellow in a similar way to the Guardians. They also have a blue-hued back carapace. Same basing scheme with snow and icy blue tufts.
-
The Phoenix Lord of the Warp Spiders, Lhykis.
To keep with the Iyanden theme, I chose yellow for the mandibles, and back aspect rune; I also kept the overall scheme in darker black to a colour called Field Blue for the main body.
Sword done with a NMM style in turquoise colours, using a fair amount of both wet blends and glazing.
Base simply GW Contrast Aethermatic Blue over desert tan primer for the warp electricity; Eldar ruin, GW Contrast Space Wolves Grey. Usual snow and tufts to finish to keep with the rest of the army.
-
Well that's a new one on me - he didn't exist back when I was doing Eldar.
But lovely painting as ever - great colours and shading. Bravo.
-

He’s a new Phoenix Lord - not 100% sure what edition he appeared in.
Thanks for the kind comments - he was actually quite fun to paint!
-
First of three units of Fire Dragons (plus there is a Fuegan Phoenix Lord!).
Base Vallejo Desert Tan
GW Contrast custom 1:1:1 Magmadroth Flame: Iyanden Yellow : Contrast Medium for main colour; Tallasar Blue for half helmet, Iyanden Yellow for other half; Black Templar for weapons
Airbrushed gloss varnish, then thinned GW Contrast Snakebite Leather.
Painting … AK Deep Orange with a bit of Pastel Peach; more Peach for highlight; Yellow and Blues as per Guardians; weapon highlight Vallejo Field Blue.
Snow base with icy grass tufts.
Vallejo Matt rattle can varnish - DONE! Two more units to go.
-
I've not seen that phoenix lord before. Great job. Nicely painted.
I remember playing a game against my brothers Eldar (A long time ago) his warp spiders did a lot of damage to my Tyranids. I swear he was fudging the rules, lol
-
Well done
-
Thanks guys! It’s a fun project. :D
-
After a week of family visiting, finally back to painting. Second of three units of Fire Dragons finished! Blue helmets instead of 50/50 like before. Also, aspect rune decals used.
One more unit to go…
-
Needed a break before tackling the other five Fire Dragons.
New model for this edition, Phoenix Lord Fuegan. A really good sculpt from GW; I like the small details like the Chaos Space Marine head (on fire!) on the base.
-
Finished the third and final unit of Fire Dragons, this time with yellow helmets.
Next up: Howling Banshees…
-
I took a quick pic of the army as it’s coming along; I think the tough part of any Eldar army that is Aspect Warrrior-centric is unifying a Craftworld theme. I believe I’ve done that across what’s been painted so far using the blue and yellow of Iyanden.
-
Two groups of five Howling Banshees for this commission, plus Jain Zar.
To get to the off-white, I airbrush primed them Vallejo Desert Tan. Then, I used GW contrasts thinned with medium, Snakebite Leather, Iyanden Yellow or (?) Blue, for the helmets; Volpous Pink for the hair, Black Templar for the weapons, and Space Wolves Grey for the base features.
The white is AK Creamweiss, a really nice off-white in a tan tone, that generally needs two thin passes to get to the right density. Vallejo German Desert Brown for the leather, and Vallejo Field Blue for weapon highlights. The yellow is a mix of AK Dark Yellow with a colour I forget, but which deepens it a bit. Might be rust. Highlight is straight AK Pastel Yellow. Hair highlight is AK pastel violet. I love the AK pastels, they work great.
Base edged in black - snow and tufts to come.
-
Well done with the white
-
Well done with the white
Thanks, Louie!
I can’t seem to post a finished photo of the first unit. Standby!
-
Another aspect completed, another Phoenix Lord done! Jain Zar, Phoenix Lord (Lady?) of the Howling Banshees.
Banners off the spear reflect the ongoing Iyanden blue/yellow theme.
-
That is really nice
-
That is really nice
Thanks Louie!
-
Finished the Swooping Hawks - Phoenix Lord Baharoth is almost done.
This first batch of the project is coming to a close, end is in sight!
-
Those look really sharp! The blue, greens and yellow make a striking combination.
-

Hey, thanks! The client really likes them, too. Just hit on the right turquoise palette I think

And the Phoenix Lord Baharoth freshly finished.

Great colour palette there. Very nice.

Many thanks, Beefcake! This unit was one of the most unified as far as palette went - and a genuine joy to paint as a result!

Eldrad - finished barring snow and final varnish. I’ll do that with the next group of minis.

Mostly done Dire Avengers

Eldrad came out great nice work all around

First unit of Dark Reapers done. There will be three in the army!
-
A few preview shots. Client wants the army for a tourney, the push is on …

By using magnets, this Falcon can also be turned into a Wave Serpent!
