Hi,
Just like to get some tips from you guys here.
How would you paint a glass of wine?
-
if you wanted it cartoony, this is what I did

what figure do you have in mind?
-
would make it like FG, red for wine, white for glass
-
Excellent work, FG! I support the "white glass" method - for bottles, I usually use green as the main colour, and add a thin coat of gloss varnish after the final dullcoat.

If You would have to do it on a showpiece, it would be quite time-consuming, using a mixture of veeeery smooth blendings and harsh reflexes in exactly the right spots. Taking a photo of a similar object under the lighting conditions You want to simulate might help. I think to reverse the highlights from where the liquid 'begins' is the key to success!
I tried this to 'gamig standard' once, converting a trumpet into a bottle. The highlights are done very smoothly, with the darker parts fading upwards into the lighter ones. The liquid is a lighter shade of the coulour used on the bottle, getting lighter towards the bottom. A few heavy gloss coats finished it.

I know a green bottle is not what You asked for, but if I would paint a clear glass, i would use the same technique of placing highlights and shadows.
Hope that helped.

That's a nice bottle!
Thanks for the tips guys! I'll post a pic when mine is done!

i'm sorry to say but my skills in a forum are a little lacking. so i don't know how to post a reference here from another topic on LA but...
in Swashbuckling Adventures under a Royal Navy theme is a wondeful example of a Brithish Officer hoisting a glass - mayhaps a fine Madiera? nice example of what's requested here - hope the photo is reference enough to help with this topic.

I strongly suspect this is the corpus delicti, the reason why Dom asked for our experiences... ;) :D

Yes, that is the glass that I painted after all the kind tips here:

Thanks all for the useful ideas!

I'm curious to know what the glass looks like from the top. Is it pure white or did you paint red in the center?
-
Hi, I painted a white rim and a red centre

oh dear - if i paid more attention to what was on the forum and less to what i was supposed to be doing at work, i would have been more aware. i won't let that happen again! work ALWAYS comes second to LA!
