With all the time constraints I experience, I look more and more to find historical events that only involve a small number of combatants. Recently I tried to find a good reason to start with the Zulu Wars and I found the death of the Prince Imperial to be such a small scenario that might be possible to tweak in between work and family. The gangster game I plan for my train station is a similar size scenario. Out of curiosity is there others that feel the same? Any good historical "micro" scenario ideas out there for various periods?

I prefer skirmish scenarios, partly because of the time element, partly because of my short attention span! To compensate I do try to come up with projects that will allow me to double up on games and/or figures.

Donald Featherstone released a book many moons ago called Skirmish Wargaming. It gave several scenarios that covered the periods from the Vikings to Monte Cassino. The newest edition apparently adds a couple more, including some fantasy/scifi. I always liked the little sketches provided that showed the setting of the various skirmishes. A couple of them would make some nice little dioramas. I particularly like the scene for the 95th in the Peninsula.

Watching good war films will often give you plenty of inspiration for scenarios. Even if they are the wrong period, they can often be adapted very easily. I usually watch a DVD with notebook & pen handy, note the time of any potentially useable incident and then go back and re-watch it afterwards taking notes.
There are also often good ideas in novels which can easily be adapted too :)

I'm interested in French and Indian gaming and Bob Bearor's series of books on French/Canadian partisan leaders looks promising for that sort of thing. http://www.amazon.com/Leading-Example-Partisan-Fighters-1660-1760/dp/0788420682/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1260562927&sr=8-5 (http://www.amazon.com/Leading-Example-Partisan-Fighters-1660-1760/dp/0788420682/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1260562927&sr=8-5). I got a gift card for my birthday so I ordered volume one to see for myself.
