Since the building part of the contest is now over, I'll be posting more updates here.
So, I couldn't sit still, and started with the much-requested 3-barreled minigun:

Once finished, I'll try and mold it, but since the barrel assembly is a bit fiddly, I doubt that there will be more than a few castings. We'll see.
Edit: Oops, wrong board. Can anyone please move this up to workbench, please?
-
This is a fantastic build. Are you making this available to the public?. Would love to get my hands on one.
Paul
-
Indeed :-*
Looking forward to see (and order ;) ) the finished kit
-
Looks brilliant!
-
Thanks, guys!
Yes, it will be available in January. I am still working on a few weapon options and the helicopter version. We'll see if I have them ready by Christmas...
-
Three barrels! What do you mean three barrels!? MORE!!! lol
Looking good (as I've told several times) and I promise to order one under pain of death.
(More barrels)
-
Damn sexy Yar! Triple barrel is perfect, but I can see the challenge in casting it.
-
Any chance if a picture with a 28mm standing next to it Jens? :)
-
Here you go:

A little progress on the gun suspension (nothing really visible, though), and in the second and third picture you can see the six-barrel assembly for the minigun somewhere near the tail. Oh, and a very early stage of the rotor, of course.
-
It is just lovely. How long is it? (trying to work out if it'll fit in the hanger I'm currently building.
-
Length from nose to tail is 155 mm, width at the engines is 90 mm.
Here is the top-down view of the final model again:

Grid is in cm, so you get a good impression of the measurements.
-
Man, the rotor blades look promising as hell!!!
;D
-
nice
won't the rotorblades be difficult to cast in resin?

Yes, probably. I am considering either supplying them just as polystyrene strips, or inserting a wire core into the mold before casting. The long, thin blades alone will most probably warp, but I hope that the wire will provide the necessary stability.
-
wouldn't steel strips be cheaper?
I guess anyone who buys resin casts will have a power drill of some sort?
anyway, it is a very good idea to have the blades separate
-
I will be available with the VTOL-engines instead of rotors too right?!
(as in the picture)
-
but I hope that the wire will provide the necessary stability.
It will but because of the shape, you may find it twists, even with the wire. Honestly it depends on the particular resin and heat during curing, which you already knew :)
(http://I guess anyone who buys resin casts will have a power drill of some sort?)
Resin is actually quite eay to drill with a pin vice. However yes, they should have a dremel type device for cleaning and working with it. But then anyone who does modelling should have one :D
-
I wouldn't mind one or two depending on the cost...
Looking forward to updates.
-
Yes, she's a little beauty :-*
I'd love one, depending on the cost. So long as it's not GW levels I'll almost certainly order one (maybe two ... three?).
I was hoping that there will be some nice tie-in toys from Avatar - those VTOLs on the previews look superb - but yours is just as good and in 28mm too :D
-
Here is the completed minigun, both pictures rather overexposed.

The six-barrel version is also in progress (yes, Thorbjørn, even with VTOL engines ;))
-
Wibble :-*
-
It looks damn near perfect...
-
Two Questions
When Can I buy them ? and
When can I Buy them?
They may seem like the same question but I felt it important enough to say twice
Lovely model
-
I hope to get enough castings done in the next days for a release at the start of the new year. I'll announce the release here a day or two before making it (more) public, so you may rest assured that you'll be among the first to know.

Have you got a rough figure for the price?

I managed to cast the three-barrel minigun ;D Top one is the master model, bottom ones are the first casts:
I had almost no hope of getting any decent casts at all, but even the separate barrels turned out beautifully, with only a hint of flashing. It won't make it into the shop, but I'll add one for free to any Dragonfly bought by a Lead Adventurers, as long as the mold lasts.
Have you got a rough figure for the price?
I do ;) Originally, I planned to announce a price with the release, but since I received a few PMs on this subject already, I might as well do it now. The kit will be 32.50 EUR, and consists of 10 parts (3 legs, gun, 2 main engines, 2 secondary engines, body and tail). If you are particularly desperate for the minigun version you might want to drop a PM, as I will be adding those on a first-come-first-served basis, and the first three are already preordered o_o

Thanks! That will help me plan my budget and save up for one :D

so is this releage including the helicopter version? or is that coming later?
Sorry if you've said but I'm losing track of what day it is

First things first ;) The helicopter will be released most probably at Tactica in February.

For anyone interested, here it is: the Dragonfly XRT-16 (http://pardulon-models.com/product_info.php/info/p57_Dragonfly-XRT-16-VTOL.html&refID=1)!
Took a day longer than I expected (always does), and the initial release is rather small (always is), but what the heck. As promised, if you give me your Lead Adventurer alias in the order comments, a free three-barrel minigun is yours 8).

MØhøhøhøhø... Jens now has ONE less for sale!
I beat you all to it!

That's just what YOU think ... lol

I'm just gonna keep waiting for the copter version :D

Ordered two myself... :)

Ordered my three. Hope my wife does not find out too soon...

So when are the rules for "The Pardulon VTOL Game" due?
(or in other words! what on earth will we be using all these VTOL's for?!)

:D

I'll give them to her personally, so she can clip you around the ears with them lol
-
(or in other words! what on earth will we be using all these VTOL's for?!)
I´ll be doing a "Terran Corporate Conglomerate mining for Superconductor Materials" project with them.

adding some blue painted "indians" and reenact Avatar?

adding some blue painted "indians" and reenact Avatar?
No shit, Sherlock! ;) lol
But I´ll probably not use Indians. Have to choose proper RDA mercenaries first, then work from there to create suitable Na'Vi. Maybe Preiser 54mm "academy figures" with sculpted detail. Or I´ll use the Bronze Age six-armed Martians to amend the only real problem I had with this otherwise very nifty movie.
-
why don't You just wait until the merchandise is released and play helicopter and indians until then ??
new variation of WWW (weird wild west)
or maybethere are some 32 mm indians? Reaper?
or at least naked ... don't know! - won't be much work to convert the clothing

First, the toys are absolutely unsuitable. Far too big and not nice enough for my taste. And given recent experiences with film merchandise makes me seriously doubt that there`ll be toys in a more appropriate scale. As for model kits proper, I´m not convinced Revell, Fine Molds or others will purchase the rights for that given the current state of the plastic scifi kit market, and even if they do, it`ll probably be a stupid scale like 1/72nd, or worse, box scale like with the Star Wars kits.

32mm is way too small. IMHO, 60mm would be best, 54mm is acceptable for Na'Vi in 28mm scale. Apart from the fact that there are almost no Indians in that scale (disregarding toy figures), most decent model figures have too much clothes and stuff modelled on (either Woodlands or Plains Indians) to be usable. :( I´m still looking for 54mm Neanderthals which don´t cost an arm and a leg to use for my Perry Rhodan project... :(
So I´ll best get "academy figures" and work from there, or go for a totally different approach like using Kroot warriors for a more feral, nonhuman alien species with smallish 25/28mm human figures. But I tend towards using either Void 1.1 Viridians or Copplestone Castings, so I can also use them with my existing cyberpunk stuff.
And finally, if after all my years on the Fanworld and here people haven´t yet realised that I´m far to impatient to "wait" for anything rather than scratchbuilding something to game it with...
-
I agree that converting from what exists now is a lot of work.
But - I remember how in the beginning Revell were very reluctant to release Starwars models od the 2nd trilogy and now the market is flooded
plus - Avatar will cause such an Avalanche (already the sequel is announced!) that I expect all kinds of scales and quality, if not 28mm figures...
patience indeed could be a problem. ;)
I use the Void Viridians myself, and I think You'll still be able to get enough - they are great, a pity they scrapped the range.
Kroot could be a good choice - I converted them myself with saurian heads, and maybe some good elven heads could make proper conversions, or even GW wardancers ? after all there is the danger that "true scale" Na'vi could look odd...
I am a bit pissed, because one of the concepts I was toying with to paint my lizardmen VSF army would make the people say - "Right, poor man's Na'vi, haha", so I'm still considering.
After all, the Na'vi concept is pretty generic for "primitive, nature loving society" for everyone to identify with the "noble savages"
so, good luck to us, Watson :D 8)
But I still can't imagine the rule system to suit bone arrowheads vs helicopter gunships - how about T&T 2011 "Pandora" ?? ;)
-
With a little bit of modification that could make an excellent Orca fighter to go with my GDI light infantry man I have floating around somewhere.
