Hi,
Just a quick one. What towed a 25pdr other than the Matador? Did the 15cwt truck take this role? Thanks in advance... just making lists and I am spoilt for choice on the Grubby tanks website but dont fancy the Matador.

The Morris Quad - C8 FAT (Field Artillery Tractor). Chevrolet also made a version

A whole lotta dudes. ;)

As Pete says the Quad.
I think the Matador tended to be used for bigger guns like the 5.5" howitzer.
-
As Fred says, the AEC Matador was a heavy tractor, used to tow 4.5-inch and 5.5-inch Medium Guns, 3.7-inch Heavy AA Guns and the like. Definitely not used for 25pdrs.
As Pete says; the Quad Field Artillery Tractor was universally used to tow 25pdrs - either the Morris C8 or the CMP equivalent.

For the Germans — 6-wheeled Krupp Protze.

Mostly C8 FATs as per the answers above.
There were exceptions however. Australia didn't produce the Quad so a variety of more or less standard CMP Ford and Chevrolet 'Blitz' trucks were used. Australia did have its own FAT but the body work was very different and it too sat upon a CMP pattern Ford or Chevy chassis.

No takers on “a lotta dudes”? lol

Yep, the Australian Army in the SW Pacific. They'll bite on that one. :D

Thanks for the advice! I will pass on the lot of dudes but I acknowledge it made me smile. Looks like I now have my answer, Grubby tanks order going in....
