Boy oh boy has a lot of life stuff happened since I've posted last. I'm hoping to really get back in to the hobby now that things have settled down. Not to bore everyone but since I posted last I think I got married, changed career paths entirely and had a kid. Without further ado though, I decided to dive into a Napoleonic Project. I played M&T first edition but had held off on 2nd until pretty recently. I went all in and grabbed the book, both supplements, both decks of cards and the tokens. I placed an order to Victrix which shipped and arrived in a week. While I was waiting for that order to arrive I went ahead and found some sort of base line scenario to run. Now full disclosure, and I know this won't be everyone's cup. I'm not that fussed with accuracy. I didn't want to get super bogged down in the details of researching for accuracy on this project. I'm settling for a close enough is good enough and once they're done I get to play games.
So to start I dug out a half box of Wargames Atlantic 95th rifles I had split with a friend and had more or less exactly enough for what I needed. I also kept the ball rolling and painted the first batch of French Line.

The Victrix figures seem to me like they're a little bit older and that shows. I was kind of lazy with mold lines and such but I think they paint up pretty nice. I really like the box set, it gives options for Command, Voltigeurs, Grenadiers and all sorts of fun options and poses. They're a bit dated but they're exactly what I was looking for.

Finally, I've attached a link to my own blog where I did a post on each of these units including specific paint recipes and a few other shots. I'm hoping in theory to have the game playable by September. The first post is live now and there will be one on the French Line on Friday

Good morning,
I just finished up a couple more figures for this project. Some 3d printed Voltigeurs from Piano Wargames and an Officer made from the Victrix Sprue

The 3d prints from Piano are really lovely. They came supported and printed super easy. They scale super nice with Perry and the other plastics.

Looking good so far. I think that getting a game onto the table (and painted too!) is more important than accuracy (to most - some won’t agree). I find the motivation of planning, playing and enjoying games really helps motivate my paint queue progression. I still haven’t tried M&T2 (have v1) but it’s on my list…..

Yeah, I think it's a balance between how much time it potentially takes vs whether or not someones gonna notice/call me out. I have only thumbed thru Shakos and Bayonets so far but the pictures are pretty! It's a lot of what I used to love about starting an era. You see the nice motivating photos and want to paint your own.
I've added a unit of Dragoons to the French. These are the Perry dismounted dragoons from the plastic box. They're fine. Theres a couple arm options and such but I did my test figure on a Piano Wargames 3d print where the detail was much crisper and felt a little spoiled by the time I got to the plastics.
I actually used most of the mounted figures for a Sludge army I painted last year so these were just sort of in the mountain of shame which was great. I've got some more Voltigeurs and Grenadiers on the table now and then the French will be just about finished for this first game.
