Hi everyone! I figured I'd go ahead and start this group collective thread to update what we've done this month. I changed the "I" to "we" so everyone knows it isn't just my stuff... lol
(https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiKpGreVTdFkjDNGfbfE6iOekX_4ji6rJ5R-32bRXlqMNW9UxlY6rXljq6jkQ1nR-pvw9TQxyuSW625u6Z24vVbpkK64UfGZmopXHqe1_hISPp_WwXKEf21sslDk4Dt7em43Mqr20CNudy0WW2mmi_RpuQjKtr0Wcm3HdABjHi2wLrZOcfbvWqi-nOnP4s/w640-h268/AlienGraysAllZoomDark.jpg)
First off, 3-D printed Alien Grays from JS Wargamer Printing (Big Mr Tong STLs). I did them partially on a whim, but also to sell in an upcoming flea market. I decided they didn't fit the "vibe" of my current Sci-Fi stuff, but they looked fun to paint. :)

I used Turbo Dork's metallic blue Curacao for their shiny retro spacesuits. I really like how these guys turned out! For LOTS more pictures and comment on why I painted 12 miniatures up for no reason other than to maybe sell, check out my latest blog post on my Lead Legionaries:

Over the past few days I have been working on a building for my modern/ zombie apocalypse project. It’s a brownstone shop MDF kit made by Northern Lights Terrain, a company in Winnipeg, Canada.
This is the first of their kits that I have built (actually my first MDF kit, period!). I think it turned out well for a reasonable amount of effort. The kit itself is simple and all the parts fit well. The front brick effect is etched in, as is the back door, and the rest of the parts were intentionally left blank by the designer to keep cutting time and costs down. I think it’s a reasonable trade off. On the other walls and on the interior floors I used paper texture sheets that I printed from Sarissa Precision PDFs. Those worked pretty well once I got the hang of them. The asphalt roof is fine sandpaper glued down and painted. I think it gives the right impression. (Just for clarity, in the pics the model isn’t glued together yet and is held together with blue tac, as I am still working on interior details. I expect that the fit will be a bit tighter when it is glued.)
I’m going to paint in some more details like the window frames, and I am building some simple interior walls, but for now I’m happy with it! Now I just need to finish another 4 or 5 buildings to fill the rest of the block!
By the way, for fellow Canadians, I recommend Northern Lights Terrain. So far I have placed two orders and both were packed and sent right away, and they arrived in less than a week. For folks that are interested and are outside Canada, it still might be worth considering ordering (at least once the Canada Post labour situation is resolved) - postage costs are high but the CAD isn’t and the base prices aren’t bad. I have no affiliation with Northern Lights, I am just a happy customer.

Nice looking building! Great start to your urban battlefield...

Meanwhile, I finished two packs of Viet Cong. I have begun mixing in more variety of uniforms than the trademark black pajamas. I think this will look better on the tabletop.

Got these for Christmas, 3D prints, will make a lovely idyllic countryside scene … just before the goblin wolf riders come over the hill!
-
I know they are sheering the sheep but at first glance it looked like they were slaughtering the sheep! Very nice work all around!
-
Hum, you may be on to something there, I feel a scenario coming on where cult members are slaughtering sheep for their nefarious purposes perhaps? lol

Finally got these six 3-D printed pieces of Sci-Fi scatter done. I honestly think they were on my painting desk being worked on here and there for almost a month. All the metallic blue spots were time consuming. I'm happy with how they turned out, though...

Six infantry battalions, one ad hoc pioneer battalion, ten guns with crews, and five 'generals' - and 22 dead figures. And this is for June "so far". Mostly painted in preparation for Bunker Hill game in AM (still PM as I type). Figures were about to be matte seal coated - why on the cardboard.
Total: 213 figures including the five horses and the dead.

After a busy few weeks and a lingering cold, I finally got back to painting. Finished two Stargrave figures, an angry janitor ready for action and a proxy Star Wars Inquisitor type.

These are great -- especially love the Inquisitor.
Here's what I've been doing. More stuff to sell at the flea market.

MDF building from Father and Son Gaming. I have so many ruins for my post-apocalyptic games, I figured that I didn't need it. Now that I have it painted up, I'm like, "Maybe I should keep this..." :D
(https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEilp6ql-n9wsRwIU_bPo12t3-U0xggwd6TjCcgP2Wh6qg9e26ALggq_5WVEzDYhKBOC8HUhgEKr9iHcJ9PLLszMK1OK0a6HxKGXUWfRllxub22NsCD8gEa1w_2tKtRrgoEWd6VJEeH4jcYDyvnXaw5uvAFBJI54qdDds_eY2b99UmSNQcgyKJdeFedRPFk/w640-h242/OilBarrels_AllUp01.jpg)
Plaster oil barrels a friend cast up for me years ago. I already have plenty, so painted them up to turn them into cash (and other purchases??). I used the Dirty Down Rust Effect on these and liked how it worked on them.
(https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjLU15qtWWrBEVIweCgq2h3_z99fwFxTt9qXO4OoJnMdQQODYyN7SHRgueHv6kyeMAuhBaCjax293rDtq5ZpN3b3RfF4jzwuluhlcDybFA7XvAQ5bKPrLXjj_yUm0y3KbNlk32hVzoebTRwarHkxOOMXjJJgzGb-SU3jCFEg9ZUC1pwvCQnPnieNU9DQTE/w640-h200/DumpstersAll_01.jpg)
Got more than you need? Trash it! Or, if it is a handful of 3-D printed dumpsters, paint them up and sell them. lol
Interestingly, I didn't like how the Dirty Down rust looked on these, so I went back to my old way of hand painting rust splotches on these.

Yesterday finished up my Robin Hood 'team' of eight figures including a horse and a dismounted version of Robin. Today I finished up two dog handlers and their four dogs - for the opposition (though, of course, useful in other ways.)
So, I finished 227 figures in June. A much larger number of Robin Hood related figures are in process with more added to the table today - just the skin base so far on today's adds.
And I really need to get started on certain pulp figures for a game planned for November - a lot to paint.
-
Congratulations! I'll be happy with that for an annual output of painted miniatures... :D

So, Mike, for these monthly tallies, it seems terrain - and scatter bits - matter just as much as figures, yes? If so, July is off to a promising start.
-
What a fantastic month of painting you've all done - I better get my finger out.

To me, yes! I track all three at the end of each post on my Lead Legionaries blog. I'm putting this in June because the figures were all painted by then. It just took me a couple days to get them photographed and blog entry written.

I finished building and painting a few accessories for the building I painted earlier in June.
The first two are interior walls and stairs for the building and the last is a roof access door. They’re all scratch built using styrene sheet, except the stairs, which are pre-made O-scale stairs by Plastruct.
-
Some pictures of the walls in place, with a survivor and a zombie to show scale. Note, too that I made the walls a bit shorter than the building’s exterior walls (45mm vs 60-70mm) to make it a bit easier to move figures around. The stairs are also narrower than a figure base - I assume that figures don’t need to be on the stairs, they can move from the door to the landing as part of a move. If combat happens on the stairs, players will just have to imagine it!
-
that is so well done... :o :-*
-
Thanks, I appreciate that! This one is a “proof of concept” - I’ll be applying the same principles to more buildings as I carry on with this project.
-
well that's definitely working...
-
Lovely job on that mate
