Title: Wooden Fencing Material
Post by: warrenss2 on December 12, 2009, 03:13:41 PM
For when you want a wooden fence in your zombie town.

I'm going to make a few and will post the pictures when I'm done.

These are indeed perfect for the purpose of fencing.

They are also excellent internal stressing and formwork for nissen and quonset huts.

With the right set of nippers they can be used to create wooden roofing tiles

Don't order them from Amazon unless you have little choice. Just find a coffee shop that uses that particular type of stirrer. (I know several in Wollongong which is a long way from South Carolina.) Chat up the amazingly beautiful barista who serves you every morning and - hola!- you can get hundreds of them for nothing. You have to pay for the coffee, though. And the service is compensation enough.

Starbucks and Gloria Jean do not make coffee, by the way. They make black drink which is a wholly different substance. Amazingly beautiful baristas are always worth the search.

I have been getting a lot of the 7 inch coffee stirrers from Starbucks. Whenever I get my 55 gallon Mocha Frappachino (spelling?) I explain that I'm a railroad modeler and use the stirrers for fences, docks, small house, etc...

They give me a fist full every time.

in this case, I'd rather see hitting on the barrista as the main dish  ;)
allthough, mentioning the modelling stuff might not be the best idea in this case...

March is a good time to come up - I just might take you up on that!

These coffee stirrers are also good for piles of lumber laying about my upcoming zombie town business... The Morning Wood Lumber Yard.

It's definitely a good weekend, and we'd love to see you. Having been to a few of the major cons I can say that Hot Lead is great gaming. It may not be as big as Fall In but ther games are quality.

Best name ever!  :D

Best name ever!

I wish I could take credit for coming up with the name of my lumber yard, but I cannot.  :?

I found it on the web.

My son gets a MacD's every saturday as a treat and I get a pocketful of those lovely wooden stirrers as payment for having to visit the bloody place lol

I've got enough materials ready to build several feet of fence so far  ;)

Party and restaurant supply stores carry them sometimes too! There's a restaurant supply store near my house where I picked up four boxes of them so I can build to my heart's content!

By the way, I purchased the Chopper II (http://lighthousehobbies.com/CatalogDetails.aspx?id=14206), does a great job cutting small wooden and plastic parts, like coffee stirrers, kind of pricey, found a cheaper model here (http://www.micromark.com/CHOP-IT,9547.html), but not sure how well it works.

I've been looking at those choppers. But for right now my hobby knife is going to have to do the brunt of the work.  :?

The wood stirs are good for making spoke wheels and such for wagons.  :-)

but You don't need to ruin Your teeth for some spoked wheels  ;)

how comes that fencing (the thing about separating open spaces) is the same word used for the swashbuckling sport with the blades?

I could have clearly mistaken the topic title

Rymans the Stationers sell the big lollipop sticks/tongue depressers in packs of 50 for £1.49.  They also sell the small lolly sticks.

The dollar stores out here in the northwest USA all seem to carry fairly large bags of wooden sticks in a number of sizes for a dollar.

Popscicle sticks are 2xs thickness of coffee stir sticks and much wider. To get the stir sticks to a scale width for fence slats or boards, you may have to split them. I used thin styren plastic sheeting cut thin and then assembled my fencing. Long sections, short sections and knocked down sections. Heres a link to a standing section
