Title: The Hunt of Kraskra Giantbreaker
Post by: Pictors Studio on 25 June 2025, 01:10:15 PM
The reputation of Kraskra Giantbreaker preceded him as he made his way from the mountain lands of King Granute Longstrider. A pack of Giants had been seen moving through Tarrok Glen. Granute wanted them. The Games were coming up and being able to add some more giants to the gladiatorial pits would make for excellent sport. Ogres from all the kingdoms would come to see that. And they would pay to see it.

Kraskra, at the behest of the king, went out to capture some of the giants.

His forces drove the giants ahead of them, ever keeping the creatures awake, ever dogging their steps, Kraska got the dim-witted monsters confused, tired and angry.

The giants were pushed into a clearing in a wooded glen far beyond Tarrok. This is where Kraskra planned to hem them in and trap them.

Just as his forces were moving to surround the giants, he saw gleaming shafts flying through the afternoon sunlight and striking one of the herd of giants.

The bellow of frustration echoed off the wooded mountains around him as Kraskra ordered his warriors forward to capture the giants before the stupid elves could kill them.

The fight was quickly joined as the giants fled from the Ogres into more of the swift elven missiles.

As the Elves and Ogres pushed towards each other, the frantic, frightened giants becoming sandwiched between them a new sound entered the glen, at first presaged by a low grunting, the howls of Beastmen raiders drawn in by the sounds of battle now rang out.

The newcomers attacked Ogre, Elf and Giant alike.

The Beastmen showed up from all directions.  Their forces dribbled onto the battlefield without any cohesion.  For all that the savagery of the Dragon Ogres proved unstoppable.  After slaughtering the Mounrfang cavalry, they pursued towards the biggest unit of Ogres.  The Ogres prepared for the charge.

It was not enough, the Dragon Ogres shattered them and ran down the remnants of the unit as they fled before them.

The Elves were having more luck with the Beastmen, as each group emerged from the woods, the elves targeted them and destroyed or broke them with the volume of their shooting.

More beastmen poured from the woods.

The Dragon Ogres continued their charge into the Elves who had felled so many of their cobelligerents.

The fighting there was intense as the Dragon Ogres finally found an opponent that refused to yield before their crushing weapons and that attacked with a swiftness they could not counter.

But the Elves paid a heavy price for their stubbornness.

With their army all but shattered the Ogre Ironguts were able to retrieve the situation in the center of the table.  The stood against a unit of Gors that charged them, slaughtering many of the forest dwellers.

The Gors broke and fled, panicking the nearby Bestigors and clearing the center of the battlefield for the Ogres.

As darkness fell over the glen all the combatants were glad to use it to retreat from the field.  The Ogres had captured two of the giants and they would be happy to get those back to King Granute.

Absolute chaos- excellent! Thanks for sharing! Looks like it was a lot of fun. Did you use Warhammer rules or something else?

Also if you don't want your mat bunching up I use a handful of pinch clamps around the corners of the table (I use a blanket but it should be the same).

Great work!

We used Warhammer: The Old World.  I wasn't that interested in it when it first came out but a friend was and got me to take another look at it.

Overall, it is a lot like 6th edition, which was my favorite edition of Warhammer*.  Spell casting is easier in this edition, which I like.  I'm not sure how I feel about charging, but it the variable movement in charging is growing on me.

I was worried it was going to be another Horus Heresy, but it is a lot better than that in terms of rules organization and lack of mind-numbing complexity.

I'll definitely be playing again.  I bought the bad guy army book last night, which is the last of the three main books I didn't have and I'm looking forward to Cathay coming out in a few weeks.

* I never played 7th and 8th but I did see games of them.  8th was a complete turn off just watching it.  7th didn't seem to make enough changes to make it better.
