In August 1652 a certain Michiel de Ruyter burst on to the stage of 17th century naval warfare at the Battle of Plymouth, as he successfully defended a Dutch Atlantic-bound convoy through the English Channel from a larger more powerful English fleet under Admiral Sir George Ayscue.

In a restaging of this remarkable sea fight using General at Sea rules, a friend of mine sent me his solo replay AAR which illustrated well what a talented commander de Ruyter was in fending off Ayscue in the way he managed.
