Title: Fallout Faction Nuka-World?
Post by: 79thPA on July 14, 2025, 01:44:21 PM
Has anyone played this relatively new boxed set?  My 16 year old son is a huge Fallout fan, but neither of us wants complicated rules and game mechanics. Thank you.

I have not played it, but a friend of mine is interested and loaned me the book to read through it and give him my impressions. Thankfully, it has dispensed with the proprietary dice with all their confusing symbols on various faces that the earlier Fallout release had. It uses standard d10 dice now.

However, there is a bit of crunchiness, as another friend likes to say. When you roll to attack you roll two different colored dice. Hits with one color are different than the other color. More minutia than I really think is needed. However, it seemed a lot simpler than the previously released Fallout game, which we played once and did not enjoy.

It seems to tout its campaign readiness, with a number of scenarios and much of it depending on what kind of base your faction has. It is pushing you into the Fallout world factions, though I imagine you could use Scavengers or something for generic factions. It does seem to be wholly intended to be a 1 vs. 1 game. That is probably the thing that irks me most about Big Box miniatures games. Everything seems to shove you towards one-on-one gaming. My friends and I have been doing multiplayer games for more than four decades. Although we occasionally get sidetracked by the flavor of the moment 1v1 (such as Saga), we always gravitate back to multiplayer games and have much more fun with them.

Sorry if that was way more personal take than you were asking for...!

Not at all, Mike. I appreciate the feedback.  This would strictly be a 1 on 1 game for my son and I.
