I never intended on making a Saxon force, I only ever started off converting a few Gripping Beast Dark Age Warriors into slingers for my Germanic tribes, but these things have a habit of getting out of control. Somehow six Germanic slingers turned into a Saxon warband project. Very much a gamer's tale, a few pictures below but the full journey can be found here https://thetacticalpainter.blogspot.com/2025/07/saxon-warband-what-saxon-warband.html

Hi, nice looking force. A couple of questions. I can see Victrix and Gripping Beast figures, but can't tell how well they match size-wise from the photo angle. Can you comment? I have two packs of Victrix late Saxons in my unpainted stash and may be inspired by the new pillage rules to start assembling them. Secondly, are they based for any particular rule-set?

There is a notable size difference which I discuss in the blog post with a few more pictures. I also go into the reasoning for my basing and how I’ve tried to adapt it for multiple rule sets.

Thanks, useful observations. I'm afraid I'm a bit old school. I know all the arguments and half agree with them but for me The Dark Ages will always be the "Dark Ages"!

So where are the slingers!?!

So where are the slingers!?!
In with the Germanic tribe figures, perhaps?

I think they are in the blog.

Enjoyed the blog post very much! The little slot to track casualties is a very nice touch.
