Title: What we painted in August 2025
Post by: mikedemana on August 05, 2025, 06:37:18 PM
I've had these done for a couple days, but was waiting to see if someone else would start this thread...  :D  lol

(https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj84Y7LWk4Kew9Yz7iOtxZtF87btT_OzKHmbAqsh3Xm41JJ4SPtUPxzHU4zoPg2p-FwJHJbhNxDiQfCod4B6JUKQhnRjl60GsdPS8bo6RbdNB6lCFP_CGBXBMF_zBRRpEkB6AiHrqU1cjP_1yiDYzXFs6_90Al9I5umh3ARXfQHegMsdsXa9S0NzMgTL60/w640-h248/VietCivilians_All01.jpg)

Painted up a dozen Vietnamese civilians for my 28mm Vietnam project. They are from Empress Miniatures (purchased in the U.S. through Age of Glory).

(https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjoTytqWqDWOj4xiIs5jbE50cGu-QQO2tlkfaM9T2sSJmNBUdlZ1NyBdZf-wNfG2oC6hjUVRpO0k9Qx2T5yURzP0YFBXrpQIJFQGGyjMX6exjKeV6Yv38N5KsceRZTgrTKg6ntOu5vEtS3ki7NWgq6ow7CULxe9AuogmVEUKKwdiHBQh1zFIJXerK7Iy64/w640-h600/VietCivilians_GroupC.jpg)

One of my favorites of a very nice line was the Hmong lady in the middle of the above picture. I did some image searches and tried to get the feel of what the tribal traditional apparel looked like.

(https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhoLdn49vFcDZ1CUwE1giGMmP2hvwAngIHanKwHJtTyTGswC1lQTmIKV0WuifnCPU1pTA5-mKu1li0V_yc2C2yP4U0YPZpAPMM420IAupAqIFQyMJfUomWt9mTKah_TnGh8hXf0sYp2zO3Duu7xGfBYlMYxwAcxds0QFD8w5Sq_qrgUXck672bnTDi7v2o/w640-h592/VietCivilians_GroupD.jpg)

Figures are very simple, but clean and full of character, I felt. Happy with these!

Not completely painted in August, but definitely finished this month.

First up a plastic Rapier that I've been waiting for since they were rumoured to be in the Prospero game. Crewed by techmarines because I think it should be, not sure why, see it as lower level techmarines getting field experience, the Angels of Vengeance shoulderpads are home made and I know they're technically wrong, but I'd made enough to think, whatevers.

Also for the Angels of Vengeance a heavy bolter turret that looks suspiciously dawn of war like.

And Finally a unit of scavenger grots, the start of a Dread mob, which is why the Runtherd has a cyber squig hound.

Personally, I think 'completion date' is what matters.  I suspect a huge number of us have projects partly done that get set aside for various lengths of time (days, weeks, months, years, even decades) until we finally finish them.  It is being table ready that is my measuring stick.

And, with that said:

(https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgnBcNMvHQbKxV5wJlw5Oa2rVqw1qHVKaykqoBOJYmaFO6SCKP89bdjOLuNhxHilOz63rQPeWnzEepBcMi7ymtQl4QCQbZ4hmrHm8BILSHG_0ZOfFZnb7EKx3RwHgouK0XkIamZucNM1X_1lJ43uFU5YXazH_GCr1G6x-I_3IIhHqxHqnO7K1yYff7Psw/s600/IMG_0276.jpg)

35 Robin Hood figures finished so far this month.

And these:

(https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjQfxSd0E-2jTJ0u3Yaqy6VmSR3L4JVAtvK6IxjyHltdULPGGRDuAZsLq6d2JTxJgYezb1P2KMCvhNkx5I6wpcS3vp9PtieGX6rBLQP55T8-7niVWw56f7e5OJkj1MiroBMkiSIoNx3WwRT_k7ISBEcKl5Lk3PpLUCoGfJgUB65ZlUK37vkfDy5ybWpFw/s600/IMG_0251.jpg)

21 deer game ready for those Robin Hood games.  But I'm not counting these since they were purchased painted.  Sure, I did some work on them but I didn't paint them, just modified them - and not enough I'd claim it as my work, have to be a lot more 'me work' before I'd do that, basically wipe out the underlying work.

Need to figure out, again, where my total for the year is at.  Still hoping to maintain my 1,000+ figures per year average for five years straight.  Only game table standard but a figure on the table is a figure on the table.   Edit: Just did some backwards digging and I'm at - at least - 811 figures painted so far this year (and as close as I'm going to calculate, frankly)!  And more on the table for Robin Hood in process and a lot more to get done for a pulp game in November.  I think I'm safe on that goal.  I hope.   ;)

Forgot to post my 3-D printed Canyon Rocks and Stacks. I'll be using them for Star Wars games on Tatooine. However, they'd work for games set in the desert Southwest of the U.S. or really, any such rocky desert area.

Thank you, sir! Actually, the XR! game was a larger, 1/72 scale engagement my friend Keith put on. The game I just put on the Cold Wars boards is my own adaption of Sellswords & Spellslingers, a solo or coop fantasy miniatures rules system from Ganesha Games. I've known Andrea at Ganesha for years, and he's green-lighted me to write a supplement/version of it. Thus, the play testing

Latest thing finished this month are six Sci-Fi civilians. I used the Stargrave plastic kits and assembled them from various torsos, heads, and limbs. I'm of mixed feelings about how they look. They're okay, and I will definitely use them in an upcoming game.

My favorite is the Fishman alien, above. I love his big, black bug eyes and how the "freckled" green skin turned out! To see closeups of all six, check out my Lead Legionaries blog:

Something that doesn’t fit with one of my current threads,  a lovely vignette of tanners designed by Black Knight Miniatures and printed by Ransons Tabletop.

Dean, that is very cool and may inspire me to populate my desert tannery I recently acquired (not yet assembled let alone painted).  Nice work.  But in 15 mm!

And now an additional 65 figures (YTD: 876), the Sheriff's contingents for Robin Hood game tomorrow (obscenely early on Saturday where I'm at):

I bought the GW War of the Rohirrim set at Christmas and painted about half of it in January.
I painted the remainder in August.
Here is the whole thing.

I bought some Gondor Ruins and the Tower two weeks ago and built them in a weekend.

The tower can be pristine or damaged.

I also finished off some Morannon Orcs.

I am slowly getting closer to a game with the siege towers from this year's Build Something Contest

Two great projects finished so close to each other. Congrats, Mick and Marianas! And all I did was finish up some 28mm Fishmen that I'm really not sure what I will use for...  :D

The Pike fishmen above are from Beldolor Studios, as is the Bass fishman. The other two are Kuo Toa from the D&D Nolzur's line.

Painted up six more 3" circular jungle scatter stands. These went faster than the first bunch, now that I knew how I wanted to do them.

Nice jungle Mike.  And perhaps some denizens to roam about...

Four more figures painted this month:

Kong and friends for a game I'm building towards in November.  (YTD: 880)

Not showing here, but I've recently progressed a whole bunch of deciduous trees to my collection, mostly individually based on 2" steel discs.  Might add some more autumn colored trees but with that - and the jungle trees I need to assemble, I should have more than enough verdure for pretty much anything I'm likely to put onto the table.  Not counting in figure count but I put 70 of these trees into a recent Robin Hood game as table ready.  Quite a few more to get to that state.

As usual, some stuff that doesn’t fit on one of my current threads.

When I was making Post Apocalypse figures with improvised weapons from Stargrave kits, I found a note by North Star suggesting the use of tools off the dwarf light infantry sprues.  I bought a single sprue from Wargames Emporium but of course there were five bodies and plenty of other arms.  So five random dwarves, including one as a civilian for Guards of Traitor’s Toll.
