Title: SI's SP2 Peninsular War French
Post by: Silent Invader on August 17, 2025, 11:41:13 AM
A new project from me, though in some ways a resurrection of an old one. Some 8 years or so ago I started a similar project for a British Army, lost my way and sold the miniatures (though I have been pleasantly  surprised to discover that I still have a few of the buildings).

As a break from working with metal minis and to test myself as to how quickly I can get an army onto the table, I've opted for a French force notionally set in 1812, with the approach being more drama than documentary.

I've assembled the entire all-plastic army from predominantly Perry, using Victrix for the gun. Most of the figures are a straight assemble: of all the units the Engineers (Genie) have the most conversions, as I wanted them to be differentiated from the infantry by having tools.

The force comes to 103 figures for 130 points, including leaders, units (or groups, in SP2 speak), and options.

The unit composition is (numbers exclude leaders)

1 x Command of musician plus ammo and water carriers (=3)
4 x Line Infantry (=32)
1 x Line Grenadiers (=8)
1 x Line Voltigeurs (=8)
2 x Dragoon skirmishers (foot) (=12)
2 x Dragoon cavalry (mounted) (=16)
1 x Medium Artillery (=5) (with add. Canister)
1 x Engineers with cart (=6)

90 men + 13 leaders = 103 figures

A few photos follow but they're not yet at painting stage as they need cleanup and in places a little GS.

Thanks to Harry Faversham (Horses) and to An Evil Giraffe (Engineer) for their kind donations, which filled awkward holes. And thanks to Malamute, Elk101 and OSHIROmodels for their great advice.

And a few close ups of the engineers, under the command of a sapper (a bit of GS still required)

The engineers' cart is made from bits.

Great looking army, they are going to look superb when painted. I particularly like the engineers.
