Title: Pawnee Raiding Party
Post by: BillK on 20 September 2025, 02:38:03 AM
I don't game Wild West... so this group will be used to raid east into the Illinois and Ohio country, and Cherokee lands. The figures are a mix of Clearco Pawnee, a couple of Conquest-Warlord, and a couple of Perry figures. They were painted by my friend Joel, who is an excellent painter, as a favor to me; plus I promised him he could command them when they appeared in a game. Given my standard basing treatment so they fit in with my other indians, settlers, and militia figures.

They look lovely (everyone needs a friend willing to paint things to such a good standard!) and thank you for introducing me to clearco miniatures (hadn’t heard of them before).

Great work, I love the uniform use of the red.

Love the wolf pelts.

Care to share which of the figs are not Clearco?

Don’t think I have any of the Perry or Conquest/Warlord figs.

pacarat,

If my old brain is recalling correctly, the figure in the left foreground with the turquoise blue necklace medallion, and I believe the figure immediately to his right rear (as you look at the pic) are the Conquest-Warlord figures from the Sauk-Fox pack. I think one (possibly two) of the warriors in the mix is Perry, but am not recalling which fig(s) off the top of my head.

I too was impressed with Joel's treatment of the wolf pelts!

As a side note... Clearco just released mounted Pawnee to match the dismounted figures. (Oh great, now I have to convince Joel to paint the mounted figs to match the dismounted ones he already did for me, because my painting style doesn't match his and I'm not sure I could imitate his style.) The Clearco figures are very easy to paint and the option of separate hands with various weapons on some figures add to their uniqueness. My two cents worth.

Lovely painting on those figures - especially liked the way you painted the characteristic Pawnee style roach.
I was researching some of the warpaint designs that the Pawnee used (I was thinking of fielding a few) - most of the warrior societies used the (fairly common) red/black warpaint but I've also seen a few images of Pawnee warriors with all white faces, something to do with channeling the wolf spirit, I think. I noticed you're using the wolf pelts and wondered if you'd come across the same information? And, now I look again, it's also mentioned in the Clearco Pawnee painting guide as something their scouts did - interesting.

Probably the finest Indian sculpts I have ever seen.

And a great paint job to boot!  :-*
