Good morning. I'm looking for some advice. Over the past few years I have built up Vendean Royalist and Republican forces for a Sharp Practice project using Sharp Practice. My knowledge is pretty sketchy but so far so good. I know both sides used limited numbers of cavalry and so far haven't bothered with any for the Republicans. However I now see that Perry have released a range of Chasseur a Cheval is various uniforms and was wondering if anyone knows if they would be suitable candidates for a Republican cavley unit in the Vendee? If not what sort of cavalry were deployed there?

To answer your question, there were several Republican cavalry units during the War in the Vendée.
There were the 10th and 11th Hussars, the 19th Chasseurs à Cheval, and the Hussars of Death, which later became the 14th Chasseurs à Cheval. ;)

This unit was created in june 1792 and fought at Valmy. In 1793 with the Hussards de l’Egalité, they formed the 14th regiment of Chasseurs à Cheval. They fought during the civil war in Vendée using the same uniform . ;)

My favourite unit has long been the cavalry of the Legion Germanique, with its "piquers" or "piconniers" - effectively lance-armed chasseurs a cheval; and the much-debated "cuirassiers legers" who despite many depictions on the net probably never wore armour in the Vendee.
