So I have an old copy of DBA v2 (I think there might be the addendum for 2.2, not really sussed about it).
As a result, I ordered in a fit of nostalgia a Bulgurs army and a competing Magyar army.
Both solid choices for the period, fun to paint and with just 12 elements… simple to build, eh?
Progress to be captured here. Standby, all …

Herbert, a real "blast from the past". I was at the "Society of Ancients" conference back in the mid 1980s when Phil Barker brought what I guess would today be called the "DBA Beta rules" for an after lunch/dinner light hearted competition. I haven't played them for maybe 30 years and only sold all my 15mm armies about 18 months ago.

Cool project! I haven’t played any DBA since I moved to Edmonton about 9 years ago, but I have fond memories of it. There was an active DBA scene in Calgary with a group that met regularly at the Sentry Box. I played a lot and still game occasionally with some of the guys I met through DBA. I remember being skeptical when I saw the DBA 2.2 rulebook - just black and white text, no pics, no diagrams, but it turned out to be the game I played the most, ever. It has its quirks, but I think it’s still a solid game.

DBA is one of my main rule sets. I love the variants that allow you play games set through history.
So quick to paint up to forces, especially when you do it in 6mm or 10mm like me, and try out new
periods without spend a lot of money and time.

Ooh,looking forward to progress pics!
Just ordered minis myself for a morphing pair of Early Bulgarians/Hungarians/Magyars, con combine for a single Avar too. And just got home from playing 2.2+ at the FLGS today.
