I have evaluating many of the different rulesets for the Wild West. but came to the conclusion that none of them I looked at, could match One-Hour Skirmish Wargames (OHSW) for a fast and furious game that I believe suits the Wild West era very well. Thought I would share some images from our latest game as well as the "Wild West" adapted QRS for OHSW:

Interesting T, very interesting. How many figures a side, do you reckon the rules, can stretch to?
I'm kind of drawn to Cavalry and Indians.

Interesting!
I've been using Fistful Of Lead or Ruthless but as I like OHSW rules for WW2, this has promise!

I have used OHSW for a number of periods 1600-today. For this scenario we had around 15 miniatures per side but I see no problem to double that, given that the game would probably be 2-3 hours. If you use army or cavalry units we use the rule(as you can see above) that a number of soldiers under an officer can do the same action if they are within command range. That rule makes it possible to go even further, maybe 30-50 miniatures per side, but then you divert even further from the "one-hour" idea ;)

I looked at Ruthless as well but found that the higher level of detail there, limits the number of miniatures. My aim was to be able to have bigger skirmishes, also involving regular troops. Thats why I felt the need to have a more simplified combat sequence. As long as you have miniatures firing, OHSW is the game for me with no limits to what it can be used. :)

Thanks for that most appreciated. I used OHSW rules quiet a bit a few years ago, then drifted off to FFofL Bigger Battles.
But, I'm suspicioned that what you've just told me, would be perfect, for the Long Knives and the Redskins!

Surely your charts are incorrect! Do mounted figures really move 12 feet in one turn!? :D
More seriously, how does the card system differ from the card system used in Fistful of Lead family of rules? I've used that system and put hundreds of figures in a game successfully with Bigger Battles variant.

Thanks for the correction! I realize I got a bit lost among the inches/feet :D
I will fix it coming weekend.
Unfortunately I am not familiar with the Fistful of lead system. In OHSW each player use a standard 52 card deck incl one joker each. The cards are used as explained in the QRS, so its quite straightforward.
