Title: OG Space Marine (Back on track)
Post by: Sonny! on 01 October 2025, 01:25:29 AM
Well kind of. I keep wanting to do other projects.
I know you guys can relate.
Come on 70-Seventy? RT era Space Marines. What was I thinking?
I so want the Legiones Astartes: Combat Force. I so need two boxes of Primaris Assault Terminators, or I can just buy the new crux terminatus box. Best thing is they are Primaris size and poses.
Well enough drooling.

Is this a RT era marine? He seems tiny? But nice work.

No, 3rd edition. 2nd edition's had different guns and a more static look, 3rd was a bit more poseable and had more variation on the greaves and chestplate details.

Thanks - I started in 2nd, they were VERY static. This didn’t feel 2nd, or RT (hunched over?).

I have a mountain of Primaris new edition to work on now. Wow, have things … changed …

Torso (Blood Angels Death Company), combat knife and backpack are 2nd ed, as is the metal shoulderpad with skull motif. The arms, plastic Chaos shoulderpad, pistol holster and bolter are 3rd edition.

And the paintjob is proper grimdark... :)

+++EDIT+++ correction: the arms are also 2nd ed ;)

That is NOT an OG Space Marine.

While I agree from my own perspective, I would like to argue that the OG moniker can be applied by people to different eras, simply because that's when they got into the hobby.

So when Sonny!'s first steps in the hobby were made during 3rd ed, that's the OG era for him, even though RT was for me (and obviously you ;) )...

Quite true, although I should, for the sake of pedantry, point out that Space Marines predate GW by a considerable time (which they found out to their cost) so 'OG Space Marine' could refer to the Citadel Spacefarer's range of marines (which I got into way before 40K) or even earlier!  lol

Was that the laserburn era?

Yes although I'm not sure which came first, Spacefarers or Laserburn, although Spacefarers was 25mm whilst Laserburn was 15mm, of course. Bryan Ansell (with Tony Ackland and Richard Halliwell) wrote Laserburn (published by TTG) whilst Spacefarers was published by a fledgling Games Workshop - funny how things work out, innit?  lol

Its not that I did not have that box of 2nd edition. I sold them for the more poseable 3rd. Dremeled the LOD metal marine toro to remove a lot of details. Painted them, and now striped and repainted them.
Speedish paints for the win.
You guys are the only people who understand.
Like Daeothar naming all the bits that went into making him. Love it. Now 67 to go. I will post a pic in comparison to the primaris I painted, I needed a break from the grim dark Prussion blue scheme.
I'm glad to see others have a pile of Primaris. I only have the one assault box.  Two boxs of termis.
Speaking of old timers. Im glad to see pre RT guys commenting.
