I am posting this thread as I have a few ideas and I was wondering what other people thought.
Native Americans-taking advantage of the chaos to try and claim back their land.
Diner staff
Cars and Motorbikes
Nuclear Family!-as seen in Six String Samurai
Cheerleaders and Scots
More Mutants
GIANT ANTS
Russians
Chemical response team- in the all in one white suits
and finally A flash of lunatic inspiration, (which I am going to have to build) four young preppy british guys with a couple of girlfriends caught travelling through the Stares in a London bus whilst on holiday, a surefire bullet magnet if ever I saw one!
-
four young preppy british guys with a couple of girlfriends caught travelling through the Stares in a London bus whilst on holiday - And one of the girls get irradiated then grows to be.... The 50ft tall British accented girlfriend!!! A 50 foot Billie Piper brings wonderful fantasies to mind. :D
Native Americans-taking advantage of the chaos to try and claim back their land. - Or, using ancient rituals, CAUSING the chaos to try and claim back their land.
Ancient Native American Shaman's mummy leading other evil spirits from Native American mythos (see above).
Giant anything... ants, spiders, praying mantis, gila monsters, scorpions, snakes, rabbits, etc...
Various alien types... Grays coming to lead an attack on Area 69 to retrieve their stolen ship. Or do probing experiments. Or to grab Earth women for breeding purposes (I heard they're easy). Or to mutilate livestock. Or to make corp circles. Or to take over the world. Or for hunting sport (It sure is growing hot this summer, Billy). Or to lay eggs inside people, watch them pop out, grow real fast and kill everything in sight (and bleed acid blood on everyone).

I second the motion for Beatniks (it seems like a natural choice for the period).
When you say "Girls in Petticoats" I think you mean girls in crinolines/with poodle skirts... ;)
-
I've been looking for figures for a doo wop group in electric blue tuxes.

Grey Aliens would be cool indeed... (I really like the ones from Copplestones and I really would like that they add an other pack or two to the one they already have) ::)

I seem to remember a suggestion on the official AC1957 forums regarding a bunch of guys in Hawaiian shirts and something involving tikis... I do remember liking that idea. The beatniks and greys would be pretty neat as well.
Oops... Should've read previous posts. Yeah, the tiki-bar crowd.

I would like to think that a beatnik gang would have a person that looks like Bob Denver.
I'd like to see some Tiki loungers, business men, the Royal Order of the Water Buffalo, housewives living lives of quiet desperation, instead of JFK, Senator Margaret Chase Smith (she gave an impassioned speech in the Senate renouncing the divisiveness and fear-mongering caused by McCarthyism), civil rights protesters and Communist 5th columnists. On the celebrity front, James Dean, Marilyn Monroe, John Wayne, Marlin Brando (maybe as a bloater??), Jane Russell, and Mr. B Natural.
Whatever comes out, I would like to see more 1950s women.

Honestly, after looking over the rules, I'd like:
- Rules for vehicular combat (the current rules are fairly basic, and not much different from the ones in the rattrap adventures games). I'd like rules for guns firing from vehicles, improvised armor, that sort of thing. Just doesn't seem post-apocalyptic without it. Not a factional thing, necessarily, but could be supported with various weapons packs for upgrading vehicles on the market.
- I'd like to see the gangs currently out supported with special rules and finished before others are added. There are still some figures missing, and special rules haven't been done up for all the figs, so it would be nice to have these in hand.
- Once that's done, there was mention of a space cult involving a monkey in a space suit. Sounds like fun to me. Maybe some astronauts or cosmonauts? Idunno.
-Doc
-
Strangely enough, I have the monkey in a space suit... (that's something else we could use, Cosmonauts and Astronauts)

These are in the final rulebook. The basic rules on the Brigade forum do not cover them and were never intended to.

Each to there own Prof. I see you went with 1/64th which I think is far too small with 28mm. My preference is 1/43rd when 1/50th is not an option.

I've looked at the main rules. I don't see anything about armor, vehicle mounted weapons, etc. But maybe they aren't in the current set being offered by Brigade?
-Doc
-
Curious. Does the set you were given have stats for the three different vehicle types?
If it does, you will see that listed at the bottom should be upgrades available to each type. Guns and armor are listed there as upgrades. Armor is just an increase to Toughness so that you can model this however you would like.
-

Grimm has some 1/64 cars for his table and they actually look good. But I'm going to buy one or another 1/43 car just to compare.
-
I would like to see a Boy Scout troop and from a picture posted here... The Rat Pack! And Ed Sulivan as a single figure...
Darkoath
-
The first Rat Pack is different from the guys who did the Summit at the Sands (the second Rat Pack). It would be great to have figures of Sinatra, Lauren Bacall, David Niven, Humphrey Bogart, Spencer Tracy, Kathrine Hepburn and Cary Grant. Bogart died in 1957.
The second Rat Pack consisted of Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis jr., Peter Lawford (until '62), Norman Fell (briefly) and Joey Bishop. The term pack was never used by this group - they called themselves the Summit or the Clan - it was given to them by the press. They also called several people who hung around with them "Mascots" and that would include Marilyn Monroe and Angie Dickinson.

!/50th is an option as the Hotwheels Custom Classics are produced in this scale all mine bought from ebay, with postge about £10.00 per car, cheaper if you buy in bulk. I will post some comparison picks at end of week when I create thread for my own AC57 painted figures (just need to finish Greasers as have painted Army).

I would like to think that a beatnik gang would have a person that looks like Bob Denver.
Like Maynard G. Krebs, more specifically... ;)
(Frankly, the Hasselfree Miniatures figure Wolsey (Shaggy) is already 90% of the way there, though...)>

How about a bunch right out of Cold War history:
the 2857th Test Wing, ostensibly a Search and Rescue unit stationed out of Olmstead Air Force Base south of Harrisburg, PA, whose job it was to fly their helicopters down to DC to dig the President out of his White House bunker. They had lead-impregnated rubber suits to help them withstand the fallout, and they were equipped with lots of engineering equipment to assist in removing the debris.
...and they may even know where Ike is.... :o
-
Ralph, Ed, Alice, and Trixie? (Ralph and Ed in their Raccoon Lodge hats.
Local Herd of the Loyal Order of Water Buffalo?
-
The Three Stooges.
-
According to my copy of "Bloodletters and Badmen" (a complilation of murderers, gangsters, bandits, and other evildoers of historic note), the Mob held a big conference in Apalachin, NY, in November 1957. Apalachin is near virtually nothing strategic in value, and would be untouched by bombs (but perhaps not fallout--Guido/Nunzio/Fred/whoever were sent out of the cabin prior to the recommended safe time to see if it was dangerous amd may have reaped the benefits of "our friend, Mr. Atom"). The dons and their soldiers, with caches of arms and a strong organization, could be checking out the remains of the cities, looking to cash in on the disruption of law and the need for resources.
-
And while we're focusing on crime, a Starkweather/Fugate pair and their deranged angry youth posse might be a slight divergence from the Greasers.
-
I'm stii doing the family from Leave it to Beaver. Cant decide if the Mutant Hulk will be Wally or the Beaver himself... ::)
How about Eddie Haskell as a mutated Rat-man? Kinda runs to form, don't it? ;)

"...Gee, Officer Krupke, KRUP YOU!"
But where does Prez-fer-Life Nixon fit in between the Jets and the Sharks?
-
Jets and Sharks were more 1960+ you'll be asking for Johnny and 'Baby' figures next. ;)
I'll admit I prefer the idea of an AC62 rather than an AC57 in any case... that's personal taste for you though.
Champion the wonder horse and the Lone Ranger were close on the mark for 1957 though as were Bilko and his associates. You could also have Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis warring against each other too.
You could go for Socs (pronounced Soshes) for rivals to the Greasers though, they were the white liberal 'rich kids' as featured in 'The Outsiders' film/novel.
-

Actually Jim, the first Broadway production of Westside Story took place in 1957. Hence my earlier remark that you can't get more 1957 than that.
-
I would like some classic US cops, either NYPD or LAPD. Plenty from the Prohibition era but would like some later variants.
-

Fair point, but to me it's like saying James Bond is 50's because that's when the books were published as opposed to the 60's when the films were released. That said there isn't a great deal of difference in styles in the 5 years between Broadway and film for WSS. The Jets and Sharks are certainly an alternative to the jeans/leather jacket combo though so it would get my vote. :)

Ah… now I get it… lol
That segues right into another bunch:
Hapless bald kid with sweater w/zigzag stripe.
Aforementioned Beagle
Wise/geeky kid with blanket, sucking thumb
Music snob kid with mini-piano
Irate Fussbudget girl brandishing fist
Bluff Tomboyish girl with baseball bat
Grimy slobbish kid (how do you sculpt a cloud of dust?)
some might have special abilities:
"not-Pigpen"--smokescreen/teargas effect at close range
"not-Linus"--use of blanket as whip/sling.
-
Now that kid gang would be awesome!
-
Undead range hands, old west types from the plains, possibly some post apoc type Indians
-
A Vegas Vic and an Ira Hayes combi would be interesting. Okay Mr Hayes died in 1955, but we could twist things a tad and maybe a post-nuclear wasteland would cause him to step-up and drag him away from the bottle.

On the heels of Supa-Dupa-Man and Marvin the Moose, anybody think Boozo the Clown (the red nose ain't makeup) would survive the post Kaboom world? I was originally thinking about Ronald McDonald but he didn't appear until the early '60s.
I should think the Governor George Wallace might make an appearance with a cluster of accompanying rednecks (in bib overalls--the white outfits are for formal occasions) with shotguns and axe-handles.
Sadly, Admiral Byrd had already died earlier in the year after having vacationed in Antarctica while on Operation Deep Freeze the previous year or so. Had he lived, he might have been on another such trip while the world was blowing itself up, returning with a strong force to attempt to reconquer his own homeland!
-
The Shaver mysteries are a little earlier in the 50s, but having DEROS would be fun.
-
You can never have enough ;)
Ok the 4 horsemen of the Apocalypse, that would be awesome

Bozo sounds good but I fear folk would confuse him with other more homicidal clowns like Kinko or John Wayne Gacy. George Wallace is an excellent suggestion and you could just use any suitable hooded figures as his personal retinue.
What about Meyer Lansky and friends? They were mostly in Cuba at the time so a post apocalyptic return might be feasible. Mobsters with real Cuban cigars.
-

A rampant maniacal murderous Bozo would be fun!
Speaking of Cuba, maybe a visit from Fidel and Che could be arranged to look over the remains for potential supplies salvage and for opportunities to promote La Revolutione!
-
Lots of good suggestions. Some are already on the list. Others, I will definitely have to add.
-
50's/60's mobsters and civilians are a must imo... 30's figures are 'make do' and often look wrong. I'd be very interested in a late 50's-early 60's range featuring Cubans and US troops in any case. I've sort of earmarked the Federals in the AC57 range as Batista's men. :)
-
So.......... If I were to go ahead and commission, Che, Fidel and co from the guy who sculpted Eurekas' USMC Force recon there would be other folk who would be willing to defray the costs? Could be a post tax return project. Bear in mind we are talking about the full Sierra Maestra look, beards, cigars n' all.
-

Yes, I'd be in for 30-40 mixed figures for the pre-1960 period... I'd be in for the 1960-62 period too, but that's unlikely to happen.

Yes, but the Reaper one is shite. Thanks for the suggestion though.
What I originally had in mind was a group of 5-6 figures, Che, Fidel Raul and a couple of non-speaking roles as it were. If you've sen the excellent Soderburgh film Che, El Argentino film you'll have an idea of what I'm after. I spoke with Kosta last year and the subject matter appealed to him.

Yes Jim, the 1960-62 period appeals to me too. Pushing Cuban imperialist puppets into the sea with T-34s looks like fun. Ideally I'd like to do the Bolivian episode in 1967. Those would probably be useful as generic Latin American guerillas. If you are really interested we should talk.
-
Anybody think of the Grand Fenwickian invasion force comprised of Tully Bascombe, 3 men-at-arms, and 20 longbowmen? With the strategic element of Dr. Kokintz and the Q-bomb.
For further info, see "the Mouse That Roared" by Leonard Wibberly.

Making your own Blob is a good way of stopping excess putty going to waste. I put this one together from leftovers over the course of several months.

heheh... nice touch with the hand...

You know, what I'd like to see are some Dr. Strangelove-themed miniatures for AC57: General Jack D. Ripper, Group Captain Mandrake, Colonel "Bat" Guano, Major Kong, General Buck Turgidson and of course, Dr. Strangelove himself...!
-

Your Blob is excellent and is exactly what I was picturing in my mind. And it fits into the whole atomic 1950's theme perfectly. What a great use of leftover putty. Now we just need some stats for the creature and we're good to go.
And I agree, nice touch with the hand. lol
-
I had a horrible/wonderful thought:
A mad scientist (Frank), his butler Riff and maid Magenta, a Brute Biker named Eddie, two innocent (well, kinda) young people (Brad and Janet), a wheelchair-bound investigator (Dr Von Scott) and a horde of very odd hangers-on.
Oh, yes-- and a rather handsome muscular chap named Rocky--no, not Sylvester Stallone! :D
-
Just remembered a truly timely and appropriate bunch of explorers--Captain and crew of the USS Scorpion from On the Beach, published in 1957. The shore party might be equipped with radiation suits and O2 tanks.
-
ooooooooooohhhhh an Ava Gardner figure. I'd buy one of those in miniature.
-
Triffids, anyone?
Ambulatory poison-stingered plants (from space or radiation-induced mutation, as you wish) seek to take over the ravaged Earth!
-
"The Russians are Coming! The Russians are Coming!"
And while the film was made in the Sixties, I am sure that in 1957 the crew of a crippled Soviet submarine might find itself in enemy territory and need to scavenge enough supplies and spare parts to make their vessel seaworthy again to get back to the Motherland.
My favorite scene in the film has Brian Keith as the town sheriff facing down the heavily-armed Russian crew in the town square by writing parking tickets because the submarine is moored illegally!
-
I could use a set of downed jet pilots with those .22 cal. survival rifles. Most in standard 50s pilot kit, but at least one in that special G suit from the '50s.
@WallShadow Triffids are available from Wargames Supply Dump http://www.wargamessupplydump.co.uk/mis_minis.htm Look for carnivorous plant, it comes with petals folded and with petals in bloom with striker out.

Marilyn with dress billowing? There's one in a Blue Moon Pulp Characters pack. I think that GZG used to do one too.

From the sublime to the ridiculous:
A raging blast of gamma radiation horribly changes a group of young people, turning their hair a ghastly orange tinge, causing teeth to drop out, softening their skulls so that their minds are warped and their heads assume a swollen, moon-faced appearance!
Run, run, lest you become deformed and must spend your remaining days in this horrible condition!

If Richard or Lon are agreeable, I'll lift them from the BG forum, unless they do it first. They are due for release at Historicon, so I guess they are saving the surprise until then... or too busy. I just wouldn't like to cause offence by doing it without some form of consent. But they are good. :)

I am going to put in a large order this friday was wanting to see what they look like to add them to the list...
