Title: Games Workshop conversion for Superheroes
Post by: abhorsen950 on December 21, 2009, 01:59:57 PM
Hello again guys.
Im looking forward to playing some Superhero Games using an Inquisitor variant im working on.

But what i want to know is do you think any GW Figures can be easy conversions into Superheroes?

The reason im choosing GW is the figures are really easy to get hold of.

So any ideas?

Thanks in advance

Steve

I think some of the Imperial Assassin models would work being as they are muscly humans in tightbodysuits but at £7.85 a pop they are an expensive option.

It might well work out better to order another manufacturer's miniatures as, even with international postage, it would probably work out much cheaper and would be a lot easier.

Depends on the specific genre really.  I'd say you are best off using a combination of Plastic Chaos Warrior Maruaders, and maybe some Plastic Imperial Guard.  The Marauders are all muscle bound figures with archaic weapons and very little clothing on their torsos, where as the Imperial Guard will give you some more weapon and clothing options.

Another option would be an old 40k Chaos Cultist conversion kit.  It was a mix of Ork, Zombie and Mutation Sprues.  The Ork arms and torsos would work particularly well for creating overly muscled Heroes / Villians.

Combining the plastic sprues with Heroclix figures will give you even more options.  There was a wonderfull Lobster Johnson conversion with a plastic GW head in the pulp forums a while back.

I've been kitbashing GW boxes for years (making Necro gangs and Blood Bowl Teams) and I just can't see how you can make using GW figures cost effective for a game that will only use a handful. You may as well use proxy figures for play tests and then look at getting some "proper" minis. A couple of boxes worth of random Heroclix off ebay will cost you a lot less (including postage) than pretty much anything from GW.

There are only a few of their models I think would be ok for Supers games.  The assassins, as previously mentioned would work pretty good.  The Imperial Guard could be used as some kind of SHIELD or GI Joe or Cobra type troops as could the Space Marine Scouts.  I am doing that with mine.  I scrapped off all the skulls and wings and then opted to use Pig Iron heads.

The old Necromunda Spyrers make ideal Supers.

The Eldar and Dark Eldar could work (the latter for villains). I once used the Tau Stealth suits as armoured heroes.

Why not just go for Heroclix. You can get most commons for less than a $1.

Also, how do you plan on doing powers? Do you have a module you or someone has done?

The Tau do make a great Alien Menace type figure.  In my last Supersystem campain, one player used a two squads of ten as his groups henchmen.

This blog (link) (http://patriot-city-paragons.blogspot.com/) by Molotov may offer some inspiration for using GW minis for supers conversion basis.

I'd stop being a lazy and do some leg work yourself Steve!  :D

(Seriously though you'll be hard pushed to create supers apart from the usual punisher vigilante, (catchan), SHIELD cannon fodder (cadian with pig iron headswops), maybe an ironman or two (Marines) and then hulk/mutants (plastic orks, IG, zombie etc...) ).

Maybe a few fantasy wizards for a Dr Strange kinda thang but that's about all I can think of.
