Title: Thurnians (painted by Froggy) for Fantastic Worlds
Post by: Operator5 on 21 December 2009, 05:33:22 PM
In a part of the galaxy, near the Rygallus system, lies a dense dust cloud. This cloud shrouds the Thurnia system. The Thurnian homeworld is the 5th planet from the sun and is circled by two moons. Its gravity is slightly less than Earth and its red-skinned inhabitants tend to stand between 7 and 8ft. tall.

Prior to their discovery of interplanetary travel, the Thurnians were invaded by forces from Rygallus. The young men were taken by Rygallian troops  each year and trained on the nearby moon of Arten. Arten has a dense metallic core and, coupled with it's rotation, a higher gravity than Thurnia. Here the Thurnians were fitted with obedience collars and trained to fight. Many died from the exertion on the higher gravity world. Those that survived the process, became front line troops in the Rygallian wars of conquest.

For 300 years this went on unchallenged, but in 2387, a unit of Thurnian troops was freed from the control of the Rygallians by Grif Ingram. With his help, they were able to seize a Rygallian cruiser and begin their own crusade to free their homeworld.

These Thurnians fought for whoever would pay them (except the Rygallians). The funds were used to fund their war to free Thurnia.

A Thurnian Mercenary wears the following unit insignia, regardless of who he is fighting for. The blue circle represents Thurnia, the smaller red one, the moon Arten where they were trained and the lightning bolt their fighting spirit.

There will be special rules for these models in an upcoming issue of Thrilling Expeditions Quarterly for use in Fantastic Worlds.

These models were all painted by Lanse Tryon (Froggy), based on the color scheme that I provided him. He did a fantastic job, especially in getting the insignia onto their shoulders.
