Title: Ratnik Miniatures?
Post by: Earther on January 11, 2010, 01:28:21 PM
Anyone know anything about these new chunky modern Russians?

Cheers.

I wrote to them and got a swift response. They're bringing out more very soon so I'm waiting before I order, consequently I didn't get a postage rate from them yet.

More info as I get it.

Nice one - thanks for that.

They remind me of Jim Bowen's work at Chiltern a bit. I wonder if they are big and chunky enough to mix with the Chiltern moderns...?

Hmmm.

Hmmm.

Don`t know about Chiltern, as i don`t have any of his models.

But i can provide you with comparison photos of ratnik models with more or less common miniatures brands.

Very helpful Nimrod, thank you! :D

I don't see those Stalkers on the site though. Are they OOP? It would be a shame, as that's a really nice miniature.

£7.00 a pack, £9.00 postage for 4 packs to UK, seems reasonable to me. No sign of new Russians or Chetz just yet, awaiting eta on those at the moment (just emailed a minute ago).

I want those landsknechts!

There are also some upcoming dwarves of which I want some of the characters.

They were. I was, for once, smart enough to order them when they were available (though right now, I have no idea exactly where in the leadpile they are, though it always bothered me that one that was shown in the set of greens wasn't available for purchase yet.

I would love him to do more in that style.

Post by: rob_the_robgoblin on January 30, 2010, 10:39:42 AM
I'm mostly interested in the civilian types.

However, if he was to do more french style ones, I could use them as dwarves from the kingdom of Wursteatenburg (wurttemburg) in Flintloque. lol
Title: Re: Ratnik Miniatures?
Post by: white knight on January 30, 2010, 10:44:14 AM
I'm mostly interested in the civilian types.

Well that was the odd thing. The set was made up of all civilians and one hussar, while the one that wasn't in the set was another civilian. This being said, the hussar is great. And the mounted one too.
Title: Re: Ratnik Miniatures?
Post by: rob_the_robgoblin on January 30, 2010, 06:23:23 PM
But I already have flintloque hussars that I like.

Wasn't it a cuirassier, not a hussar? Possibly dragoon. I swear it wore a helmet and bore a cuirass opposed to a Shako and Pelisse.  ???
Title: Re: Ratnik Miniatures?
Post by: white knight on January 30, 2010, 07:07:37 PM
The mounted model was indeed a dragoon. The foot model was the hussar.

Yes, looking at the "greens" they don't appear to be "3-ups", but sculpted at 28mm as they seem to be standing on fizzy-drinks bottle caps.

Unless that Russian writing indicates they are actually on 5 gallon paint containers, of course  :?

So whats the word then?
Title: Re: Ratnik Miniatures?
Post by: Grimjack on February 12, 2010, 07:54:52 PM
The word is, Nick doesn't chase small companies, they need to contact him. He mentioned a chap in Wales or somewhere asked him and he has done some research, could be problems until he knows about volume of production, trade shipping costs, etc. Might take some of the ranges but not all, concerns over how viable it all is BUT if Ratnik want to get in contact, they can talk.

So, brush off the phrasebook and spread the word. Contact through North Star website, always looking for new opportunities.

I'm confused though... are these STALKER and Victorian types actually available NOW for sale? All I see on the Ratnik site are dwarfs and modern Russians.  :'(

Someone from the Company posted something here:
http://www.frothersunite.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=24074&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=50

"Good day, gentlemen!
I am very glad that you like the figures produced by the studio Ratnik. We have arranged production of fantasy figures and events of the first Chechen war. Modern Russians set and and fantasy figures set, the white metal, cost 7 pounds.
Packing blister. In packing 2-3 modern figures and 1-2 fantasy figures.

Miniatures STALKER are divided into three sets. 10 figures enter into each set. In the third set two miniatures of dead persons are added.
Figures are made in resin. The price of one set 30 pounds.
But at present STALKER sets are not accessible to the order.

We are ready to sell miniatures, but there are problems with payment. PayPal refuses to transfer money to Russia. Under this payment for the advice I can give only WebMoney.
I hope that soon we will solve the issue with the payment and pay will be Visa.

Best regards, Nikolay"

The steampunk figures really are great.  I dont collect anything in that style/genre so they dont tempt me to purchase, but they really do look like they will be really nice to paint.

The Stalker sets are what interest me.  Has anyone ordered any of theser yet?  If so then how does the shipping for the three Stalker sets work out?

I hope that. They said, the first steampunk figs will be cast next 1-2 weeks. Btw, they will be resin. Igor (the sculptor) said, lead casting is too expensive in Russia and apart from that he won't be able to cast all the fine details in lead.

The last message I had from Bungle:-

"Company will be Ursa Major Miniatures as soon as I get the website finished.
There will be other stuff too.
Initially its the moderns then dwarfs....but we are hoping to get everything transferred to metal if all goes well."

So, looks like the Steampunk figures will be along some time later.
I'm sure Bungle will post on here when he has any definite news.

Adding to Moonies fit of coughing....

COUGH! er hem!

;)

lol, most of, not all of. Just the ones who think bad minis shouldn't be released as if it's going to be forced down their throat to buy it!  lol They forget people work hard on sculpts usually, regardless of quality.

I will visit as tourist Russia by the end of the month. Is there any possibility to get any of the figures??

You can see all currently avaliable figures  here: http://toyarmies.com/ru/catalog/8 (http://toyarmies.com/ru/catalog/8)

And you can ask questions about buying models using this e-mail: orders@toyarmies.com

Not avaliable right now:

"Not Mordheim"  In production
"Stalkers"   Out of stock  (but maybe store will recieve them until end of the month).

But the price isn't it very high? !@ 12 EURO each?

Not each model (if you are speaking about steampunk ones)  two models in blister for 11-12 euros.   Which is not cheap i must agree, but personally I`m just don`t understand how ratnik`s prices are formed.
In case of chechen wars you get 3 models for price less then 10$.  But in steampunk range there is 2 models for 15$.
Perhaps this is something to do with the prices of production of metal and resin minis.

Do you happen to know if you get 2 deep sea divers in pack Steam 7?

I'll probably wait for Bungle to sort things out in the UK, see if competition drives the price down, but I am sorely tempted that's for sure. :)

Can`t tell right now.  As I`m not recieved him yet. I have only first 4 blisters of this range.  But I think there is one model in blister. As i read on russian sculpting forum,  that he is quite big model.

Prices should be "reasonable" from me.

Very soon I hope.

I have already been asked about supplying a stockist in the US with metal cast of the first two ranges Chechens and Dwarfs.

The other figures I hope to get and pay for moulding etc from any profits. I doubt I will make any money from this venture, as Igor is sculpting new figures and ranges pretty fast, and my share of anything made by me will go into new moulds.

But heres hoping sales are good enough to fund new moulds and get new ranges out.

I'm sure you will - at some point you 'break even' and start having a marginal profit, which will increase as the range grows, even with the cost of new molds (I know they are expensive, but still).

I was tempted to jump on the "truck to russia"-bandwagon, but I think I'll wait until you get them to help cover those costs. :)

If you want resin figures, buy in Moscow.

If you would prefer the newer stuff in metal.... please wait a bit.  ;)

Those two are, hands down, my favourite models so far – especially the one in the padded jacket with the cigar – he's like a Soviet John "Hannibal" Smith. Presumably these are from the not-S.T.A.L.K.E.R line; good to see some without the gasmasks etc. – make more versatile 'survivors' for a range of games. Despite having just invested heavily in 15mm post-apocalyptic figures, these are a must-buy!

Wrote it from memory - not even sure if it's quite correct - but something like that.

I can also write 'How do you do' in Gaelic  :D

But I digress - these minis MUST be made available this side of the vendor iron curtain! We demand it!

As Igor said, minis are from two new ranges.
First one (kgb man) will be pulp 1950-1970 spy fiction. With spys, mercenaries, 007, kgb and other such stuff.

Second range wil be named "Adenturers" .  Something like russian version of Indiana Jones.  :)

Two new ranges? Interesting. Still, if they have Kalashnikovs, I know what I'm using them for!

Beautifull, but to expensive. They should re-calculate their prizes...

They are still nice, though... I'm not too fond of resin minis (I simply don't like the material), so I am definitely going to pass on the resin version. Besides that, I should probably be saving money for renovating the house we're buying  ::)

Heh... given that I have a hat fetich, I'll probably be buying a 'live' victorian top hat, too....

My current collection includes:

1 grey fedora (light grey, dark grey band)
1 black fedora (black band)
1 brown Indy fedora 'replica' (alas, not nice for wearing, too stiff)
1 tall khaki pith helmet (replica, but nice!)
Various 'costume' head gear, including a fez, a white kepi (with neck cloth), several 'gangster' hats and 1920's women's hats/headgears... and some pirate stuff)

Erm... back on topic....

As said earlier, I'm not too fond of resin (the fact that you have to wear a mask when working with it does not help). I love the minis, though, and my only real excuse not to order a couple right away is that I have to transfer DKK 55,000.00 to my wife's bank in a couple of minutes (down payment for our soon to be new home!!).
