Copplestone, deffo. I think they are the famous Zanzibari Regulars. A discontinued line that are quite sought-after. Lots of people want these, and you have them without even knowing what they are, you lucky dog! :)

Plynkes, the hell hound he is, just ruined my chances to scam them from you by saying: "Oh, *those*... Pheh, they are considered quite inferior by most miniature gamer. Still, they may have some nostalgic value to some. I *could* take them of your hands, if you like, but I cannot possibly go beyond £10..."

Thanks for the info!! And for the offer, but I think I'll keep them in my small collection.
Any ideas for painting??? I would like to add them to my force publique army... Foolish? Perhaps with red fezs, blue jackets and white trousers?

I was just kidding, mortimer. :)

They would probably fetch £50 listed properly on evil bay - sad but true. Thats a lot of packs of stuff you really want.
-
discontinued? Didn't know Copplestone had any discontinued lines! More info please!!
-
Well he discontinued his British sailors in sennet hats, then recontinued them again, so I reckon if enough people email him he'd put the Zanzibari regulars back into production. Presumably he didn't have enough interest with the first release, so didn't pursue them. You don't know what you've got till it's gone, as the man said.

Are those knobkerries on the muzzles of those guns or round flash?
Anyhoo, great find!
-
Round flash to help with the casting.

I think people only want them because they know they can't have them.
How many people seriously thought "You know, what really I need are some figures representing the Zanzibar Regular Army in absolute perfect detail. Those Foundry Generic Askari just will not do! And there are so many famous battles I can fight with them," before they were swiped away into the land of eBay auctions collectibility?
I didn't want any when you could get them, and I still don't. I wouldn't mind some of those limited edition character figures he did, though (even though I admit I cannot even remember what any of them were). :)
-
I just want them since they are the only Askaris at ease (except one from the command pack and the other one from the zanzibarian cannon set).
Or are there any more?
must have...

Any idea??? Please, some help, I'm a poor amateur painter... :)

If you want to use them with your Force Publique then I would make them Sudanese Infantry. An isolated outpost in Equatoria cut off from Egypt because of the Mahdist revolt, and relieved by a Belgian expedition from the Congo. White uniform, black equipment, red fez. They don't really have the baggy French-Africa style of Force Publique uniforms for me.
Lots of such Sudanese infantry ended up serving in Colonial armies in East and Central Africa, for the British mostly but I think the Germans had some too. Usually they would end up with new uniforms, but these things take time.

Thanks for your advice Mr. Plynkes... I'll paint the minis in that colours scheme
-
"White uniform, black equipment, red fez."
Which is the same as the prescribed Zanzibari uniform. So you're not even travelling far afield from what they're meant to be!
I'd growl at you, too, for being a lucky dog. But the former Foundry rep in North America managed to find some for me a while back, so I'm not feeling deprived. They are rare birds, though.

seriously, Askaris?
I mean they do look very nice and detailed etc - CC after all
but isn't the market flooded with Askari's ?
I have kind of a recurring experience with CC and Perry R&F (just a matter of personal taste)
I see them and I think - wow! these are fine sculpts, and a rather complete range - shouldn't I buy some? And then my diversity emergency brake sets of - damn, so limited postures, all variations of a standard body, all using a standard range of heads with a few additions and omissions here and there in the kit.
maybe my brain filter, but I think WG Foundry have a lot more diversity apart from character packs in the other ranges
