Title: VBCW Northern army
Post by: scotty on 17 January 2010, 05:33:57 PM
I've attached a link to my blog showing the start of my Royalist force for the garrison of Morpeth during VBCW. I aim to add additional units namely both regular and militia horse to the regulars of the Northumberland Fusiliers

Cheers, I'm just awaiting the latest order that will allow me to add a couple of platoons of milita (mainly musketeer minis) and some border horse (converted from some blacktree Boers)

I threw my hat in the ring a couple of days ago, saying that I'd do some North Durham Soviet militia. What with all these fascists and Anglicans sloshing around the north-east, I figured that the north Durham miners and the blokes from Hawthorne-Leslie and Swan's would be supprting neither side!

At least, my grandad was at Leslie's yard in 1938, and I'm fairly certain he wasn't the only socialist.

As for the miners, it's only 12 years since the General Strike when Soviets were declared in several Durham and Northumberland mining villages (Chopwell and I think Wardley, there may have been others).

Now to find a mini that looks like my grandad when he was 26...

I was thinking along the lines of Jarrow marchers and ship builders myself, as i live in Hebburn which is renown for its ship building ( i used work in Amec shipyard north of the tyne). Another idea i was thinking of using the black and tans and WW1 Scots something along the lines of an independant Scots free Scotland , Northumberland for the Scots etc

I did notice that you're 'Hebburn' Jon. Hebburn, of course, was where my Grandad lived (well he would, working at Leslie's, there wasn't much of a commute in the 1930s!). It was either on or near Ann Street. Now all we need to discover is that we're half-cousins!

You've got the same skin colour on the avatars :~}

We've opted for Scarborough declaring independence/armed neutrality.

Food shartages caused by the anarchy make fish something of a premium - and the Scottish trawlerfleets still follow their traditional run down the coast, although with less ports to pull into.

Scarborough Chamber of Commerce (sensing a rare opportunity to make more money) gives use of the harbour to the Scots (for a fee) and provides a couple of armed auxilliaries to patrol off-coast (Scarborough pleasure cruisers with WWI guns salvaged from sunken uboats etc. There is still actually a uboat gun mounted on the harbour, and the steamer Coronia went into naval service in time for Dunkirk)

Unfortunately this open-minded attitude has already annoyed the Anglican League in Hull, who have started sending armed trawlers into the area.

Royal forces around York are slightly more ambivalent - so long as they can still get supplies through from the coast they seem to largely overlook the "New Hanseatic League" as it seems to be getting nicknamed.
