I'm going to paint some gangster soon. Not sure about the bases design. Don't like the greyish sand, would like to have a sort of street surface but if possible without to model them with green stuff. Any ideas?

The Black Cat Street bases. My hope is to order them and get some time soon to base some gangsters on them.
-
Alternatively, if you don't want to clip bases, I use Vallejo basing material (the fine grain sand version). two to three layers on the base and then paint it black. You could even add a small piece of plasticard to the edge to make a sidewalk.

Try Antenocity's bases

Rezolution Urban bases are another option. If they would have been out when I started my gangsters I would have them based that way. I'm still considering rebasing all of them.

that's the point.

The idea with the plastic card isn't bad at all, will try it

Hey! Am I contributing to teutonic efficiency.

Hey Prof,
Here are my Gangster bases:
http://www.napnuts.com/gallery_coprobbers.htm
The Gangsters are on Black Cat bases (pavement and street), and the Policemen are on sand/plastic card bases with some O scale train accessories.

I use textured plasticard for my copplestone gangsters cause the tab is easy to get rid off. The others are a bit of a hassle with the integral base and I mostly just use normal sand. :?
Dom's idea of having the integral base on the road part of a road/pavement combination is a good one though.

sorry for the double post, one thing you could try is to have a layer of wood filler over the whole thing. Depending on the type you use, some of them have a gritty surface when it dries, and can be drybrushed to exaggerate it a bit. It could be made to look like a concrete floor I guess...

nice idea, too! thanks :)

I spread some wood filler with a spatula to the desired thickness on a flat surface that has been covered with aluminium foil and leave to dry overnight.
If You remove the foil once it has hardened completely, You have a thin piece of the filler with two different surfaces.
Just break it into pieces of the desired shapeand size, and...
Tadaa!
Extremely fast, cheap, instant tarmac/concrete floor!
Never bothered to photograph my bases properly, hope this pic helps:

Hmm...I think, I like it, it's worth to try. Thanks!

Try Antenocity's
Seconded

If you like simple quadratic slabs or bricks on the base, sculpt them on the base with greenstuff. It's very easy, you need about 2 minutes for 1 base.
