There seems to be an explosion lately in members making identical posts in multiple categories. While I understand that some topics legitimately fall between two (or more) equally relevant topic headings, I think that this is a wasteful practice that clutters the board and dilutes interest in a thread.
Cut it out, already! >:(

I agree...but with a smiley. :)

I used a smiley, it's just that mine wasn't smiling... ;)

OMG what's been double posted? :o :o :o
;) :D
-
You should post this in the "Open Talk" section too… ;)
-
Perhaps server time-outs are the true culprit who's fiendish wiles are simply out there to lure in those of lesser fuse for a premature detonation?
:P
-
Yeah, stop it.
-
I said, stop it.
Ooops!
;)

I think he's not referring to sequential double posts, but two posts in separate forum areas detailing the same news item (for example, opening a post for, say, colonial infantry in "Colonials" and another for the same figures in "VSF").
I don't think that's positively necessary, since our "new posts" are much easier accessible than on, say, TMP, where any board you don't watch closely quickly fades into oblivion (to my experience, at least).

That's correct, that's what I was talking about...

I was but jesting :)

I was but jesting :)
I was apparently experiencing a moment of increased density. lol
Nonetheless, I find the issue a bit irritating if the titles of the posts are misleadingly different so as to suggest different topics (unintentionally, I'm sure).
-
That's your tidy Teutonic mind, Chris... ;)
-
I'm not sure if this is in the same vein but I can't see the point in quoting an entire post and responding with one sentence. More so if the original post contains 5+ pictures... o_o

I posted some pics of a building I had scratch built for a VSF game on the VSF board. When I was asked how I put it together I posted the build thread on the Workbench board to share with the rest of the LAF.
Soooooooooo does that mean I double posted?

Not by my lights. You posted two completely different topics under their relevant topic headings. What I was objecting to is identical posts cloned between categories. Most often, this seems to be the practice of enthusiastic sellers, who post identical posts under various topic headings to draw attention to their merchandise for sale.
If you've got stuff for sale, post it in the Bazaar and rely on the intelligence of the forum members to decide if what you're selling is relevant to their collections. Don't clutter up the board with advertisements in other categories (sez I). ;)

I often post pictures of painted figures in the "Bazaar of Obscurities" as well as "What I painted this month" threads…is that too much? :?

I don't see that as a problem as much as the same thread (with the same title) posted in multiple different forums.

No.
If I sell painted figures I always post a picture where I "advertise."
I think this particular annoyance is simply caused when the same topic is posted in more than one area. Oddly, this cross-posting is actively encouraged on TMP, but then they have many more areas than here and most other forums.

Its happened today:

lol
It doesn't really bother me and I have to admit I have been guilty of it in the past. ::)

It did seem to have calmed down a bit - possibly due to this thread but there have been a couple this week.

But what happens there is quite different. Crossposting there creates a single topic, that can be accessed from whatever boards the original poster chose to crosspost to. There is no crossposting function here, so folks create duplicate topics in different boards. The only problem I can see with it (other than Heldrak's blood pressure) is the tiresome fact that you often have two parallel discussions going on instead of the single unified one there would be if it had been a single topic. Which means sometimes folks are asking questions that have already been answered on the parallel thread. Sometimes you find yourself thinking "Aaargh!!! Just read the other one you idiots, I already said all this once!!)
Not a big deal, but mildly annoying.

Not a big deal, but mildly annoying...
And I did fall into this last category of person in the last 2 days… lol
Seriously, when I feel the "urge" to post a new topic, my first reflex is now to use the search function to see if someone’s posted on that topic already… ::)
-
Okay… sorry for bringing that up again but isn’t it had a resurgence of double posting lately? :?

Yes, there has been a huge resurgence in this bad habit lately (note the 3 identical Hellboy threads, amongst many others). Stop already! All you do by posting duplicate threads is dilute the number of responses you might otherwise get and clutter up the board with redundancy. Knock it off! >:(

This.
And no cross posting too.
-
If you are cross always wait until you have calmed down and then post.
Good point. Anyway, I believe we will see an official ban on crossposting soon.

Oh, jurrr... Only just realized I was talking about different double-posting problems.

Just want to chip in and say this is a pet hatred of mine on internet forums. I've seen it done with 15+ images, and it's a real bugger. Such people should lose their right to access the internet. On pain of death. By shooting. Through the lungs.
Just my opinion, of course. ::)
-
here a suggestion only partly related to the topic:
in another forum, I used to have a trade topic, the link to which was in my signature.
Every time I wanted to buy or sell something, I posted it into the original topic and changed the title
so I had only one trade topic and kept easier account by marking what was already sold or purchased
does that sound like a good idea?
-

I'm more against quoting loads of pictures. That's just pure internet-fail.
However, responding with just one word or sentence is fine by my. You can't really lavish an epic poem everytime someone does something that you like.
And still, if I wish to show my appreciation and support, I'll sometimes just write a sentence. Quality posting is a myth.
-
Just noticed this post.
I have to admit I have done this on several occasions :o.The reason being I am not sure which genre to post in as they sometimes cross over.
Some people only look at certain sections so would missout on something which might interest them. Will try to refrain from this in the future :D.
