Well, despite my best efforts, the first sculpter I asked has let me down - "too busy, etc" - got all the research but no one seems interested!
Are we so Americanised that the idea of Uk cops with guns (which we see every where these days) does not appeal to a manufacturer?
SO, I am going to Salute 2010, helping out a friend with the company game which he is running (no names, no pack drill) - is there anyone out there whole will have some figures ready by then or must my lonely quest continue?
Give me hope, people (or Joanna! for Reggae fans!)

Hasslefree has a few British style Bobbies, but I guess you knew that, maybe try asking Kev if they're doing anymore of them?
-
Thanks, I saw him at Vapnartak, we had a chat and he mentioned that he has some photos of a chap in tactical gear with G36, these were sent in as source material.
I also found a lot simply by using Google Images, a bit weird to see so many armed cops over here but hey, there you go. Strangest was to see officers in SO19 kit near Oxford Street before Christmas, they have pretty silver cars and looked 'loaded for bear', as our colonial cousins say. My Year 11 pupils were either spooked or interested but largely unfazed.
Any one from a figure company want to 'make my day'?
-
Wouldn't the SWAT figures from TAG fit the bill? They are in that part of the range sculpted by Richard Ansell so they are much better than the Seth Nash Lego men. Hasslefree sell a G36 so if you want to convert them................

Offensive Miniatures?

How about the Eureka multi-part SWAT? If you use the heads with soft caps, they just need a checkered band painting on.
-
The Met's CO19, as they are now called, still make extensive use of the MP5 so you could indeed use some of the TAG or Eureka SWAT figures or even the Foundry ones, though the latter have a bit too much gear for normal patrol or guard duties.
In addition to the aforementioned MP5 and G36, British police forces use or have used the HK53, SIG SG551 and Steyr AUG, the latter in both 9mm and 5.56mm. I seem to recall having seen some recent photos of M4 type carbines in use, probably the HK416, which if it is the case means that other US SWAT figures could be used.
For gaming purposes remember that these are all semi-automatic only weapons and if more firepower than that is needed they call out the Army, i.e. the SAS.
-
I think East Riding Miniatures might have some Euro swat sculpted by Jim Bowen in 28mm.

Soapy, definately get on the case on this as there is a zombie sized hole in the market crying out of CO19 ATF british cops.
Good stuff

Aren't there any SAS figures in anti-terrorist kit out there?
This is SO19:

Virtually identical to the SAS.
This one in the US kevlar helmet, which is pretty well universal issue to UK armed police:

I would have thought both types would be covered in existing ranges. Minor details may need changing, but nothing too difficult.
-
Point taken but it's this kind of cop that I think everyone's after:
And just regular uniform 'tooled up', (ie grab what you can from the armoury, it's the apocalyspe) kind of thing.

Definate hole in the market, (or maybe two holes in the head and one on the chest of them market? :)).

Also I suppose with a bit of gs sculpting the old corporare security range from EM4 have flat caps and body armour, not totally accurate but may do at a push. I've got a few so will have a look at these later.
-
Good to see the same Google images I found for the sculpter, agree that the 'tooled up' pre-and post-apocalypse UK cop is the way to go. Most of the SO19 officers I have seen in London or found images of patrol in blue short sleeved shirts and baseball caps. Yes, in extremis, they would wear more 'SWAT'-like clothes but, when in the field, the ARV/ARU cop has basic kit and a tactical vest. If Soapy is the chappie from a certain beastly outfit, I like the quality of the figs I have from other periods. Have had a chat through my 'tempie' job with a excellent Meercat and he knows a 'man who can/may', we have discussed money and not unreasonable, not looking to make a profit, just cover costs. Also have some ok designs for UK gangs, bit of a long term plan - at present, get the figs, create a post-apocalyptic bundle with some other figs, get 'em on the net and vist the odd show, will take a while but want to 'have a go'. Who knows, we could even have a chinwag about complimentary ranges, etc.? Found some nice Sloppy Jalopy wheeled APC's that would suit, the Saxon - paint it up in police colours and off we go!

Its not that helpful, but at Salute last year I saw a demo game, with paper Police vehicles and a two street layout. But they had Police figures that might fit the bill, excuse the pun, trouble is, I'm jiggered if I can remember the name of it, but as I recall they were launching the whole package as a new system. They also had civilian types there too.
-
Ok I have traced it, the games system was called "No Go Zone" by Warm Acre. Just checked their site, lots of Brit cops in regular gear, suitable for day to day ARV use, some riot cops and lots of hooligans and crims. Surprised not to have seen it on here before, or I missed it. Worth a look I would suggest to get what you need. Having done it for 32 years, I can tell you that ARV crews in, London anyway, do not patrol in full gear as a rule, but normal Police uniform. They usually only dress up for a job, or planned op. Hope this helps a bit.
-
Thanks for that, Trooper, they are on my list for Salute, have looked at them before but now see how I can use them. Will match them with G36c's from Hasslefree. If you have any more insights into your service, etc, it would be helpful. BTW, was only a city-based Special for 4 years a while ago, just to say, thanks for what you and all officers do to keep the country a little bit safer.

I know the game (No go zone) Police and first responders against chavs (gang warfare). The figures are standard plod etc (stab vests) but nearer 25mm and not very good either:

Grimjack, your welcome, though as the Commander says, they are not the best figs in the world. As for technical advice now I'm retired I have plenty of time to gas about my glory days. I was in armed response for a large part of my service. And thanks for your kind words.
-
Grimjack, if you are looking at the Sloppy Jalopy vehicles, don't forget the humble Humber Pig as they are/were used by the Civil Nuclear Constabulary.

How about a 4 feet 10 inch (1.47m) Civil Nuclear Constabulary policewoman with a G-36?

Standing next to the Land Rover she looks like a 20mm mini with a 1/43 car!

Lol, the joys of doing away with the height restrictions. Saw lots of mini cops, male and female, during my last few years. Strange though, they always had to call on us older freakishly tall people to sort stuff out.
-
Although at the CNC, or indeed in any armed unit, I can't imagine height's a problem:
"STOP - ARMED POLICE" is enough to get me, at least, to stop regardless of height, strength, or age.
And even in general ruckus, there's always pepper spray and the asp...
Anway, to get back on topic, I too would like to see some properly attired British plods - both standard beat and armed response types.
A PSU would be good, too. Oh, and a police dog unit. And maybe a surveillance unit, you know, the types with cameras at demonstrations.
-
I've got a set of their police, so I can attest to the no go zone minis being a little on the small side and not being great sculpts.
Anyone have any suggestions for EMT figures--No Go Zone does some, but wondering if anyone knew of any alternatives?
-
Just as an aside, and its not about figures. Check out some of Vanguard's diecast Police vehicles. They are nicely in scale for 25-28mm, and they do modern vehicles as well as the older types. I think they do a PSU carrier and a dog van. I will post some pics when I have 'em, of some I have.

Have just bought some cheapie vehicles from Wilkos (command and control caravan and 4x4), plus Boyes (silver police vehicles, discovery 3, fire engine) - aiming to use some Offensive Miniatures and TAG baseball cap SWAT for a game. The vehicles cost me £15 and they had plenty of civilian stuff, plus a lovely steam engine with sounds! If you want to run a modern/near future game, I reccommend them if only due to low cost. Will also mix in the stuff I have for Geezers!, mostly raided from parent's attic.
Trooper, any phtos or insights you can send my way or post here, please do so. PM me if it helps.

Very interesting, though I'd be willing to bet that my local Wilkos won't have anything of interest >:(
Well worth a try, though ;)
