This one contains the largest cast of Lead Adventurers yet. As he has had a starring role in two previous adventures, Grimm sits this one out on the sub's bench. But there is plenty of other local interest. See if you can spot yourself.
Two Lead Adventurers shall die this day!
One shall run away crying and flapping his arms like a girl!
Is it YOU?
(Incidentally, for those trying to fathom them out, two of the characters in this episode are not Lead Adventurers. "Von Hanneken" was C.S. Forester's fictional version of Lettow-Vorbeck, while "Dick Bremerhaven" is a construction of my own, loosely based on Major Richard Meinertzhagen, a real-life bush-fighter, intellgence agent, fraudster and teller of tall tales. He was played by Anthony Andrews in the movie "The Lighthorsemen." Wargamers will probably be most familiar with him from that source.)

Great stuff and a very funny report. This is how a colonial/Pulp game is supposed to be run.
-
Well done, sir. Alas that Rich will probably take his own, cruel revenge on you on the tabletop at some point. I did enjoy the cameos by all the the Lead Adventurers.
I feel for the British. But it's 1916 and we'll assume the futility of charging emplaced machineguns hasn't quite made it to Africa yet.
-
What a fitting and heroic end to another noble author. At the rate Polynikes is going, there will be no authors left to write anything by the end of the war.
Great report. It seems that attacks on defenders don't go so well in your games.
-
Yes, I'm beginning to wonder about that myself. It's either:
a) Sloppy scenario design
b) The players' own stupid fault
I vote b)!!!
-
I forgot:
c) The Great War was actually like that.
-
I always vote B. I know I DON'T make any mistakes.
-
Another good report. Very inspiring as always.
I'm so glad you stay clear of the orient, it means I might get to live a little longer :)
-
Yes, so far you've only appeared in a scenario "scene-setting" paragraph, mentioned in passing as a Japanese Light Cruiser. We're going to have to get you actually on to the table somehow at some point...
Picking a Lead Adventure name that is hard to fit into my scenarios is a sure ticket to longevity.

Great stuff Plynkes. I love that sub, had a look on HLBS but couldn't find it.Know anyone else who does 'em?

Brigade Games in the USA now produce that kit. It is available from them. For a while you could still get it from HLBSC by asking them nicely (I know of someone who got one from them long after they stopped listing it), but now that Brigade have the rights to it that source may have dried up.
-
A pleasure as usual! I'm really envious of your cool Africa game“s. I need to talk Lead Adventure Club guys into playing Africa again :)
-
I say, jolly good, and tally ho! Looking forward to the next one!

I had a look on their site but when I did 'submarine search' all I got were a couple of ACW subs.Do you know what it's called?

If you're looking for subs, Pendraken do a rather nice one, but unfortunately in 10mm scale. I got one for 15mm gaming, but use it alongside the HLBS one as a 28mm 3-man midget submarine.

That would be this one I think. I wonder, does anyone have a picture to go with it? I think my U boat bunker will need at least 2 of them if they are suitable.

An excellent adventure reported -well done.

Sgt M'Mala Mute of the KAR
Excellent, I am delighted to have a part in the game, albeit short lived! :(
-
Johan I have a photo of the Pendraken one with the HLBS alongside for comparison, but don't know how to send it to you, or upload it.
-
Just removed my contactinfo, nothing to see here. Plz continue to the next post. Thank you.

Picture courtesy of Fastolfrus, I'm hosting it on my Photobucket.

In the back the Brigade model, in front the Pendraken one.
3 man mini submarine for 28mm....does that come with a big pot of lube? Well, it certainly has potential for my 20mm figs, after stripping that deck gun anyway.
Thx.

I just try not to feed the crew too much - don't want any fatties to tip it up.
To be fair it's quite a squeeze for the 15mm crew, but in 28mm it usually just needs to sit in the harbour and be guarded (or sunk/stolen, depending on your viewpont).
-
Plynkes - great report! Hilarious as usual!
I love your imaginative scenarios and your tongue in cheek reports!
So Leutnant von Domgoh didn't get to shoot anyone? What a let down!!
-
Well he was too busy giving orders and trying to look stern and aloof in that heavy greatcoat in the blistering heat, to bother with shooting at anyone himself. I believe it was a stray shot from one of his men that caused the armoured car crew to bail, so his unit did pay a pivotal role. While they still had the Roller, the allied players believed they had a chance. As soon as it was gone they gave up.
So his contribution was very important to the Germans.
-
Cool! That will at least earn us a mention in despatches! 8)
