Title: My new Sci- Fi Project LV669. Finished for now 05/03/10
Post by: Flyer115 on February 27, 2010, 10:25:21 PM
Last week at our club we started playtesting the new sci-fi rules based on the Ambush Alley Rules http://thehobbydenwargamesreview.weebly.com/evraz.html (http://thehobbydenwargamesreview.weebly.com/evraz.html). We got to talking and decided we need some new 28mm sci-fi units. So this is my contribution so far. Armour from GW,figures from Urban Mammoth and unknown walker with modifications. The walker and snipers are a bit shiney at the moment I am waiting for the Army painter dip to dry before I put a matt coat on.The bases are still to be done as well.

Edit: After I bitch about the single pic, it loads all of them. Great.

Revised opinion: Nice, if a little bit bland. I guess that's down to the painting not being finished yet. But very "military", i.e. nicely done. Looking forward to the finished items.

The walker looks like one of the resin pieces from the Kryomek range. Some nice designs in there. Scotia Grendel sell them nowadays, if I'm not mistaken...

Looking good, very plain for me, but that probably suits the military style of a gritty sci fi.

The walker looks like it might be armourcast? ;)

Love the old Rogue Trader era Imperial Guard pilot on the walker - talking of which, not being an expert on such matters, I'd have expected an Imperial stormtrooper to be peeking out instead! Nice mini anyhow.

Infantry is looking cool too - like the grey, milatiristic look meself!

I don't think their bland more realistic IMHO.If modern or Sci fi aren't camo they should look this way.Keep it up.

Thanks.  Do show them again when you've matted them down and finished the bases.

What are you using for irregulars?

Maybe it's so oncoming ships know which way he's facing?

Flyer, I think these are looking really good - I think the pain paintjob (which actually in detail is probably more subtle than plain) really suits the feel of the minis - as someone said earlier, it's kinda gritty (though I have a few of these and I'm painting them in much more colourful schemes, but mine aren't soldiers as such, more like space-pirates). Nice job, looking forward to seeing these finished.

Thanks guys the I was aming for a gritty military look so I am quite happy with this. This is new ground to me as these are the first sci-fi figures  I have done.I decided my force needed a commander . So here is my first attempt at sculpting it started as a I -Kore figure basics of tunic are done epaluettes and start on his fur hat. I still need to add detail and finish the hat and add a respirator.

Nice... But dude, lose the silly pistol... I cant stand those uber-sized I-Kore pistols. I got some nicer ones in my spare box you can have.

Will drop a few over tomorrow.  :)

I love the old I-Kore models. Lovely stuff.

The helmet looks odd, but I look forward to seeing what you do with it. Or how you paint it.

Looking pretty sharp there - I assume you are planning on adding tubes to the respirator?

The respirator tubes are already there they are the metal part under the mask a bit hard to see in the photos .

Aha! I thought that was the collar, but I see what you mean when I take a closer look at it.

Will be easier to envision it when it's painted I am sure, but it's coming along nicely.  :)

Great work on the commander.

Have you done some conversion work on the regular troops? They look different somehow...

The regulars are stock bar the guy with the grenade launcher who had his rifle replaced with a GW grenade launcher .I hope to have the commander painted by tomorrow.
I have some GW steel legion figures that I was thinking of doing up as militia troops not sure of them though still looking to see if I can find something better.

A useful little force.

Given the uniform colour and the insignia on the latest mini, I couldn't help but wonder if they have commercial sponsorshp ...

No, that was reserved for the Tornado F2: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Panavia_Tornado_ADV

The Tornado F2 (sometimes written as F.2) was the initial version of the Tornado ADV in Royal Air Force service, with 18 being built. It first flew on March 5, 1984 and was powered by the same RB.199 Mk 103 engines used by the IDS Tornado, capable of four wing sweep settings, and fitted to carry only two underwing Sidewinder missiles. Serious problems were discovered with the Foxhunter radar, which meant that the aircraft were delivered with concrete and lead ballast installed in the nose as an interim measure until they could be fitted with the radar sets. The ballast was nicknamed Blue Circle, which was a play on the Rainbow Codes nomenclature, and a British brand of cement called Blue Circle.
You really couldnt make it up... :o lol
