Back from the non painting crowd... I've tried to warm up my brush arm by trying out a full vehicle for a change. It was fun to paint.
This is a 1911 Daimler by matchbox. It was missing the spare wheel and one of its headlights. To round the picture off the windscreen frame was broken and the grill was missing. I decided to paint this as some kind of adventurer car for our African interwar pulp campaign and hide the damage. The rolls and bag are from Company B and Tamiya. The leather covering is scratch built (obviously) and I was really happy to get it into that state it is now. It conveys leather quite nicely I think. The grill was hidden by a - slightly to large - coil of rope. Then again... an adventurer always needs rope.
This is the first proper vehicle I've ever painted. A lot of new fields for me there, but I like the end result. Now I only have to convince myself to paint a tank and be more bold with weathering. :)

Thats come out wonderfully well. The baggage and rope really add to it and the painting on the one on the side of the bonnet looks superb. :-* :-* :-*
I did think it was carrying a satsuma at first glance though ;D

beautiful! very realistic and just a top notch painting job 8)

Absolutely great! Please tell how you did the paintjob - my mother has a boxful of the old Matchbox that are mine for the taking (no boxes although mint, I'm sure a few Yesteryear collectors would cry) - haven't touched any yet as to.......hmm... how does one say....scared :'(

Very nice! ;D

Fantastic! Among the best I've seen. The photography did the job justice too.

What scale is it?
1/43?
-
Superb!
-
Thank you, guys! Glad you like it.
I believe the scale is around 1:48... Not entirely sure. Tried fitting an Artizan British Airborne driver on the seat just as a test and he looked great in it. Might have to buy a model T driver from Company B at some point. :)

WOW! Fantastic job! Now I need one...

totally agree there!

Great job! The perfect car to go on an adventure in.
-
This really is a great car. The green is excellent. Might have to look around for some Matchbox cars now.
-
A stunning job there! :o
Can't wait to see it in action!
-
Very nice, it would look good next to one of those matchbox Rolls Royce armored cars
-
Yes, with a tender. In fact, do lots more, now. I'm suprised you haven't before. And try to avoid GW bits, they are too recognisable. Thankyou for sharing.
-
Oh, I'd love to get my hands on one of those armoured Rolls Royce by matchbox. The one by Copplestone appears to small for my liking, so I am guessing that matchbox would be more along my expectations.

Remington,
The Matchbox Rolls Royce is 1:48 and are great They are bigger then the Copplestone. The problem is that they have gotten a "Collector" value. Check out ebay I have seen them there for as much as 90 plus dollars but also for as low as 30.00 dollars. The latter tend to be out of the box and/or "played with", but for repainting and gaming purposes those are fine.
I have 4, so you won't be bidding on them against me.
Good Luck

Thank you for the info. I've seen some for 30 or 35 euros and always thought they are too expensive. Now at least I've got a price range for them.
Would you say that they fit well sizewise with... let's say... Copplestone miniatures?

There is an ongoing debate between the partisans of 1:48 and the supporters of 1:56 or 1:64. I admit I am biased and think that 1:48 is the only way to go. The one thing that is hard to do is mix the scales. However, you can sometimes get away with it, as some armored cars or tanks are just smaller then others. There was a lot of talk about scale in the back of beyond forum a few months back. You can check that out for other opinions and pictures.
You might also check out the latest vehicle acquired thread that has lots of discussion of places to get alternate vehicles.
-
Yeah, I am a partisan as well. :) Nice to know that we are organised. :) I've always found that 1:48 and 1:50 (Corgi for example) is my preferred vehicle size. Cool... Ebay hunting it is then.
-
Sorry for the double post, but I need to share my grief... :'( Just lost a Rolls Royce on Ebay for 1 pound... :'(
-
Excellent painting on that vehicle

Besides Corgi and Matchbox, both of which are great, Solido makes some nice 1:48 or 1/50 scale vehicles. Most of my WWII vehicles are Solido, some of which also get used in BoB and pulp games.
