Punk fishmen vs goblins with bagpipes and the most (intentionally) hilarious monsters GW's ever produced... what a choice!
Both very cool, colourful & unique entries!
-
lol Evil tropical fish!
D@rth - you have excelled yourself.
I shall never be able to watch 'Finding Nemo' through quite the same eyes again!
-
D@rth,an impressive entry,like the robes,very nice :)
-
Thank you all :)
-
Where are the fish figures from ?
-
The Fishmen figures are Deep Ones from Strange Aeons. Great figures, and both great entries - this was a tough one for me to pick a winner from.
-
Both entries are very well done. I could have easily voted either way. The gobbo rear end might have been the deciding factor :)
-
D@rth J@ymZ, I surrender. Well done, sir. Very nice painting and presentation!
...er, what was that old Sicilian threat of sending my enemy to sleep with the fish? ;)

+1! The plinths in the background are also quite nice!

Stunning job on those Fishmen!!! Love the guy with the spines!!! Thanx for the plug!
-
Today Atlantis, tomorrow the OCEAN !! lol lol lol
-
Is it me or do GW figures take a hit in the voting? Is this a secret agenda? I hope not- I have GW figures for next weeks entry!
I loved the squigs, and I thought they are very well done. But in they end I went for the fish, as the colours just nailed it for me. I think it's a shame the voting doesn't reflect how very close it was.
-
Tough choice, but the robes have it!!
-
Love them both! I need to order some of those deep ones pronto.
-
awesome painting on the fish that sells it for me
-
I had to vote for the BoETF for two reasons:
1) they remind me of the deep ones, and I love Lovecraft.
2) they aren't made by GW.

Thank you! And I think I will avoid submitting anymore GW models in LPL events just to be sure. :)

I don't think it's a "secret" agenda. I think a lot of the members on this and other boards are former GW players that got tired of the Greed Workshop/Wallethammer business plan and will automatically balk at any GW figs, regardless of how they are painted.

I really don’t like GW… still I voted for the Squigs... Mainly because of the green little butt in the centre of the pictures lol

I think this is the life cycle for most new grognards. Infatuation with the GW product that is followed by disillusionment, contempt, and the certain opinion that anything non-GW is superior. Fortunately, the latter stage usually passes, allowing one to appreciate when GW does produce a good product. Eventually, for some of us, this further evolves into a period of nostalgia that comes at the great expense of trying to buy from eBay all of those figures you got rid of a decade ago. ;D

I didn't even know those figs were GW! They're from after my time as a fanboy! :) I actually really like both entries, and took ages of umming and arhhing before I picked one. No secret agenda here.

I've been through the GW cycle too many times since 1987. Rogue Trader was brilliant and original. Now GW has become a constant state of "Here's the new army with the new toys that can wipe out the current army by breathing in it's general direction. Pick up the bucket of dice and roll." right before they announce "We haven't finished updating all of the armies for the current rules, but here's the new rule set and the new rules for the Space Marines." I'm tired of it, honestly. They had some brilliant stuff out there in the Specialist Games lines (before they became Specialist Games), but they don't really support it anymore.
Am I ranting? I hope so. You know,my ranting gets raves...
-
The problem is that this is a painting competion, and not a shopping competition. If I chose to buy and paint my GW figures, then surly that's up to me.
I know what you mean about the cycle. I am generaly disillusioned about GW, and hav'nt bought any of their figs for a few years, but I do have a big back-catalogue of unfinished projects in the garage, and thought I would use LPL as the insentive to get some of them finished. I can't see why I should be penalised for that by some.
-
It's the thrill of the new I suspect. I have painted dozens of squigs in the past and while they were a great job for which Temudjin can feel proud, it was the novelty of the fishmen that drew me in. The clincher was the tableau and the colour handling.
But a very close thing.
I am not a GW basher. They drew me back to playing and painting after a ten year hiatus.

That's fine. I might have a word or two to say too. However, I suggest we keep LPL cozy and unpolitical. The EE love thread is that-a-way (http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=14281.0).

I'm just hoping with all the "ranting" and LAFers viewing this thread that Temudjin00 and I get more people looking at our entries for this week and maybe some of them will even vote for us! ;)
-
Yes. The league is not the place for random anti-GW tirades.
Let's keep politics out of the LPL please! ;)
There's an open talk board to vent your GW-hating spleen on - although I think you'll find if you look, the topic's been done to death (several times) :)
