Title: Alamo question - Campaigns
Post by: Christian on March 11, 2010, 12:46:50 PM
Has anyone ever applied the levelling-up mechanics to massed combat?

I have thought about this and I think you could... at least with heroes.

Perhaps applying a Henchman level-up to an entire unit? Not sure what to do when the Henchman becomes a hero though... maybe turn them into some kind of veteran unit?

Something to think about anyway :)

Short answer, Yes, in several campaigns, both historical and fanatsy, we have allowed units that attain a veteran status to pick a special ability.  The actual mechanics and rules we used to do this have been ad hoc to each and every campaign though.

I would probably stick to leveling up the heroes and leaders and perhaps give the troops a pluck value as they evolve into better troops. You could also give them trophies, standards, or--in the case of The Tex Rev, their own battle cry. In fact. It would be a neat idea to allow the unit to Yee Haw with a battle cry maybe once per battle.  I think giving the whole unit other stat increases than pluck or skills might be a bit of overkill or lead to some serious game inbalance.
