Just stumbled upon this little gem, about to be released by Osprey in April ;D

Should be just right for anyone planning to build a presidio for Zorro to infiltrate.... What do you think Gluteus ;)
-
I want Duhammel to build one - immediately and with tutorial. ;) :D
-
Like the picture of the building on cover, its the 'MiniMo'!

lol
Absolutely perfect and I reckon even I could make a decent 28mm version. Hopefully there will be some copies available at Triples :D
Thanks for posting! Once I've painted the pesky 15mm French Napoleonic Corps I'm currently ploughing through I'll be getting back to something I can actually see. I've got about a dozen Presidiales and Mexican infantry figures primed and ready to go. I really must do El Zorro some time soon too
My poor old eyes - to think I used to paint faasends of the little blighters only a few years ago, including piping, moustaches, buttons and all the other little bits and bobs :'(
-
o_o I just pre-ordered the book.
You do realize that this comes out of the same money/account as that used for ordering Mexican soldiers and vaqueros, right?

lol..... no wait a minute.... :?... lol
It looks like an essential purcahse, its on my to buy list at Salute next month. I'm very interested to see what some of the smaller presidios look like.
-
I am excited to see it period. :-*
I don't do much in 25 mm on my own, let others do that size (or "scale") :P mostly but I do have the Pueblo buildings and way too many Vaquero/Apache/Solado/Cowboy/Cowgirl/civilian/Zorro figures for the space I have available. I plan to use the same terrain for Supers and the small amount of SF skirmish figures I have. If Hawgleg (Arnica) ever gets it together for the Adobes I'd be a happy camper and my pueblo would be complete.
If Jon Tuffley had stuck to 25 mm and added more Indonesian Commonwealth figures years ago I probably would have tended more to 25 mm then (6 mm and smaller) figures as I have for the last decade plus. Terrain and miniature storage issues are a big driver for me.
For a 1/600th oriented "zommie" type guy it always is interesting to me that I keep a focus on Zorro/North Mexico-New Mexico Western miniatures games.
Gracias,
Glenn

This is great! I assume it'll have coastal forts, as well?
Gotta love the Osprey books.

You might be interested in this one? Fortress 49. I have it - it's pretty good... Covers mainly Spanish coastal fortifications in parts of Central America as well as the Caribbean Islands

I'm just grateful that the forum's first language is English! And yes, Nick is a great model maker too. Whoever might make one, I look forward to seeing a fort in this style.

Gluteus has promised to make us one. :D
Haven't you Gluteus ???

What? :o :? >:(
Must be really going senile, as I can't remember saying that lol
Shouldn't be too difficult, as it's mainly squares and rectangles. Simple plank doors and unglazed windows and no silly pointy roofs or pantiles. That exposed brickwork looks like it could be a swine, though - there's a lot of it. If I can find a local supplier for foamcore (seriously :( ) and a quick way of doing the bricks, it might just be possible.
Don't hold your breath though lol

Yes, apologies to Svennn for not having much time to talk, but I was stitched up by being given the busiest part of our battle and was a bit worse the wear from too much beer and curry the night before :(
I was even worse off Sunday morning after an enormous Chinese buffet meal lol

Good books!
Lucky to have the first ever "New World" fort here (St. Augustine)
Nice deal, every August, the National Clay Court Championships for my age division is in Augustine, right when David Alan Coe is in town for the month.
So we get to play tennis, hang out at the fort, and listen to some old bootstompin' music every night for a week, or until I get beat in the tennis tourney, whichever comes first!!
-
So far, so good. Here is the barracks section. Easier than I thought and with no damage to fingers etc so far ;) lol

Did you scribe that brickwprk?
Lookin' great!
BTW, we need to toughen up this kid! Why, we have curry and beer for breakfast as a hangover cure 'round here!
:D

Hopefully I will be hearing that my pre-order of the book is coming soon.
Gracias,

Nick, I can't promise I'll get the figures painted soon. I am Captain Slow of Slow-motionland when it comes to painting stuff ::)
I'll try and get some done ASAP though ;)

Smokey,
Brickwork is foamcore, but a scalpel was used to prise off a corner and then peel off the card layer on one side leaving the foam exposed. The brickwork is scribed in using a dental tool with a roundish end.
Toughen up, my arse! >:( ;)
I had 9 years in the army consuming beer and curry at every possible opportunity. Sadly with old age rapidly approaching my poor old bod is starting to feel the pain lol

So where's the pic of the finished model that you so lovingly described to me earlier ::)

GM, old fruit, that is really rather spiffing :)
Overlord, Lord High God-Commander of the hand-inscribed-brick foam building scene will be purring with delight at a new practitioner.
Looking forward to the finished product. But that's impressive so far.

Well, my book from Osprey arrived today. LOL right before my e-mail from my CC asking about unusual charges (in the past I used to pay via Paypal's instant transfer.)
Just skimmed it (headache is killing me - love Saint Louis in... well, most seasons...) and I will go crash until daughter calls about being picked up after Soccer (Football anywhere but here.)
Looks wonderful. The heads up is appreciated!
Gracias,
Glenn

Very nicely done. 8)
I had completely missed this thread until Malamute mentioned it at Salute yesterday

Nice work. Looking forward to seeing more.

I had the good fortune to be on a presidio dig in San Diego for a year. We found everything from cheap Mexican pottery to bits of Ming Dynasty pottery. Quite a diverse haul of artifacts. I was not aware of this book and I will have to pick it up. Thanks for the heads up.
