Hi Folks,
We finally had the chance today to play with full 350 GBP warbands. Chris brought along his British Monster Hunters to fight against my werewolves. We played two scenarios. The first was a Battle In the Wilderness in which the werewolves drove the humans from the field (or forest as it were). The second scenario was a Seek And Find mission where each of the buildings, as well as the small stone idol, held artifacts (i.e. objectives). Each side found two and the game was a draw.
Marc is working on his Mad Doctor and creations at the moment, and in a couple of weeks, we'll be starting our narrative campaign in earnest.
Game One:

Wow I just posted how Plynkes Congo game was going to derail my current project with thoughts of African adventures... now this?
Great, great, stuff, I look forward to seeing more.
Nice Werewolf swarm during the first game, looked like the poor hero had no chance!
-
That's looking great!
Did you roll for special events?
-
Black and white photography. The best look in my opinion for horror, Brings to mind the old Universal horror films. Great looking terrain and very atmosheric games. ;D :-* Wish I could join you.
-
wow, takes edge of missing redemption
-
Very inspirational! I have read your preparations for this campaign with great enjoyment.

It looks just wonderful 8).I understand the atmospheric intent with black and white, but I do prefer color.Anyways, great stuff and is heavily influencing me into giving this rule set a go. :)

Colour is great because his minis are well painted!
You should try sepia(?the brwon colour?) next!

The unfortunate Ms. Poundwood. It was a situation where her charms were useless to be sure.
Did you roll for special events?
We were going to, but because it was the first time we played Battle In the Wilderness, we decided to just use the "thick woods" rules. Fear not, however - as we play the campaign, we will certainly roll special events every game, or mutually choose them, depending on where the story is headed.
...but I do prefer color
I'm really torn about this. I love how the black & white photos set the mood, but the colour photos show the richness and depth of the models and terrain so much better. Here's the photo of Ms. Poundwood surrounded before making it black & white.

I may go for a compromise in the end - an opening shot of each report in black and white, and then colour photos throughout showing the action. We'll see.
-
Even though the black and white pictures are nice, I like the corlourphotos more :)
-
Absolutely stunning, you sure know how to make a man jealous.Good luck with your campain. I assume you are inventing your own story for the campain.
-
This is some really great terrain and models. Please continue with these wonderful updates.

That sounds like a good idea as the color shots show your hard work better and I like it more. However, one or two black and whites at the beginning is cool to set the mood. :)
Fantastic thread as you did push me over the edge and resulted in me getting the pdf's for CinC,but also Chaos in Cairo and Cronos! lol :D
I'm looking forward to your next installment.
Cheers

Seconded. A couple of B&W shots, possibly in with some background/scenario text at the start to set things up. It is (in my opinion of course) a shame to obscure the richness of the colour and detail of your miniatures and terrain with all monochrome.
It still looks incredible though :)

Great stuff man!

As others have said, the beauty of your minis and terrain really deserves to be presented in all of its colorful glory IMO. :D
-
And remember: Universal Studios may have been moody back and white, but Hammer Horror was all lurid colour!
-
OH ! I realy realy like it ,Thanks a lot

Excellent in black and white and Excellent in colour really great stuff.

I would always prefer colour pics. Your terrain and figs are splendid, and I want to drewl over them, not just imagine what they look like in real life ;)
MORE, please! :D
I have CiC, and am planning to play the game - and posts like yours really help spurring me on.
-
Thanks for the kind words gents. Just to keep you updated, we will be starting the official campaign this weekend or the following week.
-
where did you get the buildings used in this game from?

I tend to think this is, indeed, the solution; picking which image to give that atmosphere, perhaps with a bit of nudging to increase contrast or darkening to heighten the drama, may be an unreasonable challenge to suggest, but I'd think worth the effort. Anyway, you knew no good deed goes unpunished.
Your work is brilliant already, mind you; I'm hardly the first to suggest such. ;)
Of course, if you were TRULY also going in the Hammer tradition, the colours would be so saturated as to be almost painful. lol

The buildings are from Hovels in the UK. It's their Eastern European range: http://www.hovelsltd.co.uk/easterneuro25.htm
I really love my Hovels buildings, but a little friendly advice. When mine arrived in the mail there were a lot of resin clumps in windows and between some of the logs. It took a few hours with a dremel tool to clean it all out and a little green stuffing to fix up the dremelled areas. In the end (despite my complaining) it was worth the effort, but compared to, say, Armorcast's terrain (which is pristinely cast) the condition of the Hovel's buildings was quite a surprise when the package arrived in the mail.

Yep same for me and I got mine and that was at least ten years ago. I think sadly they are very old moulds and have suffered. :?

oooh! Yeah color is better imo . .looking at your blog entries on CiC: very cool stuff ...

I just love your games. The scenery, continuing story lines and photos have inspired me and friend to follow in your footsteps in playing CiC. We have bought the rules and the West Wind figures and are working our way to some games in the new year. Hopefully we will have some pictures to post when we get the games up and running. Keep up your postings of your games ! :) :)

Can't believe I just got around to commenting on this! Great looking game. Top notch scenery and minis. As everyone else has said, the B&W photography is an excellent touch!
This is the kind of article that always gets me inspired to game. Despite fifty other projects on my list, I've begun adding new minis to my Gothic Horror collection. I sneak one or two in between painting sessions for customers.
Gonna have to see if I can't meet up with you guys somewhere and get in a game (or three!).

Have you seen his old west thread? It's a classic too!

Thats cool, nice to see the good old Chaos in Carpathia stuff again.
I missed your AARs, still playing this classic game with my girlfriend and we have lot of fun!
-
Wow, haven't looked at the old pics in years. We still play CinC though. Since the last game report, we've added more warbands. When my son gets his new computer, maybe I'll take some shots.
I've just started in on a Comanche posse for LOTOW. We are reviving our Assumption gaming with new players and new characters. Vinlander, Tenz and I are also almost through our Irregular Wars projects.

Great Stuff I do like the colour photos more though.

I enjoy the two types of photos for different reasons. The black and white are wonderfully atmospheric: I especially like the shot of the crazy woman with the teddy bear--very nice in b/w. The colour photos are helpful from a painter's point of view. I guess what I'm saying is that I'm glad we have both! Keep up the great work--it all sounds like a lot of fun!
