Title: Song of...Samurai (new update)
Post by: Frank on 30 March 2010, 11:32:34 AM
At the last weekend we have had a Samurai game played with the rules Song of Blades and Heroes. We used the basic rules but without the whole magic staff and it worked very good. We also build some rice fields. Here are some pictures of the fields and my Samurai “clan”.

Tidy. They look bloomin' smashing. All that red really brings them together as a group.

I ignored this thread earlier thinking  it was a question about using Songs with Samurai and as I have no experience of the rules thought I could not comment.

Thank god I got a bit of time to kill and read it anyway.

Bloody marvellous  :-* :-* :-*

Now where are the rest of the photos? We need to see more!

If you didn't already know I did a samurai add on for Songs - its in the files in the yahoo groups - Songs of ninja and katana.

Or PM me and I can send it and the campaign system I started :)

Love the water effect too - great stuff.

I'd love to get into samurai, but so little time, and this thread does not help that!

Wow, just wow....  :o :-* Both for the miniatures and terrain.
(I really should dig out my Gempei samurai someday. Before another one commits seppuku for the shame of being unpainted... Lost 5 already.  ;))

Looking at your paddies made me go back and redo the banks on the rivers I just about had finished ::). I'd love some reeds like yours as well.
I'm looking forward to seeing more photos. :-*

My Samurai Clan have got some reinforcements! I painted some new Samurai and a couple of civilians (all Perry Miniatures). At the next weekend they have to prove their ability (in a Songs of Ninja and Katana game). :D

Superb work, congratulations. The civilians are a great touch.

The terrain, though, is what got me. Great water effect in particular, clean and expressive. Would you share your technic?

Luikki.

ps. First post! There has to be an introduction thread somewhere... Need to find it...

OK, it’s been a while but here is a small update of my samurai project. We played a couple of games with a mix of different Ganesha rules and we build our own army lists. For one of the games, we used the Forlorn Hope scenario from the Song of Drums and Shakos rulebook. You need a big wall for this scenario, so I build one…

A large gate and a smaller guardhouse will follow…stay tuned.

Thats a great wall :-* :-*

How did you do the tiling on the top?
Title: Re: Song of...Samurai (new update)
Post by: Frank on 26 May 2010, 10:36:20 AM
The tiling is really simple. I took a plastic rode (2 mm diameter) and cut this in small pieces. Than I glued them an a strip of plastic card…that’s it.

You call that simple? There must be meters of the stuff! :)

 lol

It is lovely! I like the groundwork too. Some nice realistic natural colours and the bare earth blends in well with the grass, which can often be difficult to do properly.

I wonder if that tile method would be feasible for the sort of pantile roofing found on posh Mexican villas?
