Title: !/8 inch MDF or similar in the States

It seems 1/2 inch is as small as it gets here. Any suggestions for a replacement. I'm looking to base some buildings and terrain features. Thanks in advance.

It's been a few years, but Home Depot had 1/8" thick masonite.

1/8 hardboard or masonite would be your best bet. Same product, different names.

I strongly recommend that you call it "hardboard" when asking for it. Home Depot doesn't seem to know Masonite from Marble tile. Real unfortunate. The guy I asked last time seemed to think it was some sort of powdered concrete substitute....

I just bought some 1/8 inch masonite in home depot, just a week ago.  It's usually back in the lumber department and usually is referred to as hardboard or MDF.

Masonite is a brand name so asking for it as hardboard can be important.

MDF is what the stuff usually gets called around here. Masonite seems to be the subject of a lot of confusion- I've heard it used in reference to drywall a few times.

Home Depot in general doesn't staff very well in my experience. The one in my area is always chronically understaffed, and when you can get a hold of somebody, they usually aren't very knowledgeable. Twice I've actually been lied to because (I suspect) the salesman didn't want to admit not knowing. I think they just just don't bother to screen or train their hires very much.

There's an Ace hardware a couple miles further away from me, and I've started to go there instead. Smaller location, but better selection and better staff.

Having worked at a hardware store for a number of years...the problem with an understaffed store is the newer/inexperienced folk don't have adequate training and the people with real experience, aren't likely to be working at a hardware store anyway

I got some as the backing of a poster frame at Hobby Lobby, so maybe try a framing shop.
