Title: New Goodies to Play with....
Post by: gauntman on 08 April 2010, 06:36:08 PM
I was purusing Web Pages wondering how to spend my monthly miniature allowance when I discovered new figures had been added to the Nightmares line (A recently revived line of old Grenadier Cthulhu/Horror figs).

Thought you'd all like to check them out... :P

I have a more than a few mini from these revived range and have been needing an excuse to make a new order...

Ooh, more guys from the adventurers box too! No more desperate bidding and frustration on eBay.

I kinda feel bad for the folks who paid big bucks for the antique originals.

Nice to see those old friends available again.

The policeman with dwarvish legs and the beautiful pump shotgun was the trigger which started my entire collection of CoC useful-figures.  I had a collection of western figures for use in shootout games, and saw that shotgun-armed cop and decided to add him to my western figures, not because he fit, but just because I liked him.  Then I needed more figures to keep him company.  Then more - - - you get the picture.

That's a joke, right?  :P Have you looked at Mirliton's rates to ship to the US? It would cost almost as much to ship here as the price of the models themselves.

As for the "antique" (vintage, maybe?  ;)) originals: in the last two weeks alone, I've picked up the Dauntless Dames, the Intrepid Investigators, and the CoC Adventurers box set on eBay - all for far less than it would cost me to buy them new and have them shipped here from Mirliton.

Don't get me wrong: I would love to have a source to get new casts of these (especially the deep ones!) but I find Mirliton's shipping rates to be exorbitant. Until something changes, I think I'll just keep trawling eBay on a regular basis...

i have to agree with zenwired, i saw the post, thought 'must buy those' went to mirliton site, put them all in the cart, saw the total with shipping and tax and abandoned the purchase.

i'll be buying them from miniature ehroes here in the UK instead.

I've only just found out about the extended line myself, and I stock Mirliton!  ::)

Anyway I hope to be expanding my listing for them in the shop next week, and then I'll be in a position to take pre-orders if anyone is interested.

Also my shipping rates to the US are less than Mirlitons so if there are things you would like I'm happy to quote you for them before you spend.

I was purusing Web Pages wondering how to spend my monthly miniature allowance when I discovered new figures had been added to the Nightmares line (A recently revived line of old Grenadier Cthulhu/Horror figs).

Yeah... I'm sure I had a small part in it.  At the end of February, I sent a rather long, but organized list of all the figs they were missing from the Nightmare and original Call of Cthulhu lines along with links to pictures for easy reference.  Apparently the job of sorting through the molds was a task.  People are looking for these figs on eBay and the Arkham Horror crowd is now thinking minis, too.  I also asked Mirliton to put the old names with their new ones for search engine ease, and to cross-reference the site some more.  This came in my email last night:

"Hi,
We are putting on the site a lot of Nightmares miniatures ex Grenadier (Call
of Cthulhu range)
http://www.mirliton.it/index.php?page=4&cName=nightmares-28mm&sort=1a.
Tomorrow I will complete the range.
Step by step we are re - producing all the old Grenadier series.
Best regards
Stefano Grazzini"

It helps to write requests!
Woohoo!  :)

"New Goodies to Play with...."

I wanted to see figures of 3 blokes on a 3 seater bicycle  ::)

Back on topic these are some of my favourite figs and its not just nostalgia. I still have most of them from their original release and am very tempted to get some more to paint up.

Here's the list of missing figs I sent them, so watch for these  (those in bold I saw on the site already):

Ghouls (4 from the Call of Cthulhu line alone)
Mirliton has repackaged the Grenadier Ghouls:
NM034 Ghouls 1  contains:
8501 Chill's Ghoul (http://recipesrealm.com/wiki/index.php?title=Image:G-cn-8501z.jpg)
209/611 Ghoul (http://recipesrealm.com/wiki/index.php?title=Image:G-nm-611.jpg)
6502 Creature boxed set's Ghoul (http://recipesrealm.com/wiki/index.php?title=Image:G-coc-6502h.jpg)

NM035 Ghouls 2  contains:
The first I haven't identified yet that must be from an old Fantasy line; to hazard a guess without a pic, I'd suspect it's from Wizzards & Warriors' W31
Mummies & Ghouls pack.  Can anyone supply a proof?
2014 Folklore Creatures of the Night's M15 Ghoul (http://recipesrealm.com/wiki/index.php?title=Image:G-dlfbs-2014z.jpg)
209/611 Crypt Creatures' other Ghoul (http://recipesrealm.com/wiki/index.php?title=Image:G-coc-209a.jpg)

The coffin fig from Grenadier's 209 Ghouls pack seems to be in Mirliton's Zombies 1
[NM033] pack, since the Vampire's Vault pack (613 now NM018) has been left intact.

NM036 Zombies 2  contains:
8501 Chill's Black Tamanous (http://recipesrealm.com/wiki/index.php?title=Image:G-cn-8501f.jpg)
8501 Chill's Zombie (http://recipesrealm.com/wiki/index.php?title=Image:G-cn-8501z.jpg)
611 Crypt Creatures' MM31 Female Ghoul (http://recipesrealm.com/wiki/index.php?title=Image:G-nm-611.jpg)

Mi-gos (2 plus the special Comedy fig special with fork and bib!)

Serpent men (3)

Sand Dwellers (3)

Cthonians (Grenadier later named them Tentacled Terrors)

Dimensional Shambler (see the lone fig in colour on the NM044 Horror Monsters II page)

Great Race of Yith

Old One (Elder Thing)

Dark Young of Shib-Niggurath

Shoggoth

Hunting Horror

For the original Wendigos, you need the NM015 Werewolves duo.

These former Call of Cthulhu Nightmares were put in non-Nightmare sections, so if you didn't see them before, you should be able to find them now:

CH015 Bloodsniffers of Chaos (Hounds of Tindalos)  The Hounds of Chaos given in the Nightmares section are not the original CoC Hounds of Tindalos.  For that fig, you need the Bloodsniffers.

UD030 Bloodthirsty Bats

KITF001 Mad Doctors (contains the three figs from NM019 Mad Scientists)

Grenadier's 629 Demon and Magic Circle (http://recipesrealm.com/wiki/index.php?title=Image:G-nm-629.jpg) can be found split up between Mirliton's NM011 Demons (1) (Ragroona Beast of the Pit) and  NM012  Demons 2 (the circle). Together, these two packs, along with the Flying Polyp/Floating Death figure (NM013  Floating Death) made up the original 6006 Grenadier Demons boxed set (http://recipesrealm.com/wiki/index.php?title=Image:G-flbs-6006-ins.jpg).

UD037 Ghosts (Apparitions)  NOTE: a couple of these seem to be Copplestone's "BT1 Bad Things 1," as listed on his site at http://www.copplestonecastings.co.uk/range.php?range=CC.  Wonder if Mirliton's got the two old people to go with them, too?  Since I have the old CoC Grenadier Apparitions pack, I'll be buying from Copplestone to get the ones I'm missing.  (Already picked up from eBay the Monster Manuscript Ghost that's the oddball out)  There are altogether six Apparitions/Ghosts from the CoC and Nightmare Grenadier lines.

Only two of the Black Monks (3) pack are available - in ME020 Wizards and Priests, which you will find in the Human Fantasy section.  The fat one is also the Friar Tuck figure of the Robin Hood line.

For the newbies to CoC, here are the original names of the Grenadier figs with their Mirliton new names:
Flying Polyp is now NM013  Floating Death.
Tsuthoggua is NM014  Cursed One.
Nyarlathotep NM001  Spawn Horror
Deep Ones NM003       Creatures From Deep
Spawn of Cthulhu NM004       Hell Beast
Nightgaunts  NM005       Night Terrors
Byakhee NM007       Bijecki

Still waiting for these:

208 Undead's Buccaneer (last in the pic: http://recipesrealm.com/wiki/index.php?title=Image:G-coc-208.jpg)

6501 Adventurers boxed set's Female Writer  (second in this pic: http://recipesrealm.com/wiki/index.php?title=Image:G-coc-6501-cat.jpg)

212's Deep One with trident (second in this pic: http://recipesrealm.com/wiki/index.php?title=Image:G-coc-212.jpg)

223's two Ghasts (http://recipesrealm.com/wiki/images/thumb/5/54/G-coc-223.jpg/111px-G-coc-223.jpg)

223's Gug (http://recipesrealm.com/wiki/images/thumb/e/e5/G-coc-224.jpg/98px-G-coc-224.jpg)

612 Crypt Collection (http://recipesrealm.com/wiki/images/thumb/b/b8/G-nm-612.jpg/120px-G-nm-612.jpg)

219's three London Bobbies (http://www.primigenios.com/bobbies.htm)

220's three Cultists (http://recipesrealm.com/wiki/index.php?title=Image:G-coc-220.jpg)

221's three Domestics (http://recipesrealm.com/wiki/index.php?title=Image:G-coc-221.jpg)

222's Yig (http://recipesrealm.com/wiki/images/thumb/e/e7/G-coc-222a.jpg/112px-G-coc-222a.jpg)

222's Moonbeast (http://recipesrealm.com/wiki/index.php?title=Image:G-coc-222b.jpg)

One of the Black Monks (sorry, no pic yet)

According to a sold item on eBay, which of course isn't a reliable source, there was apparently a Society Couples pack from Grenadier.  They look like Grenadiers, and one definitely is the dandy fig from the 6501 box, but I haven't been able to verify the others.  The buyer had no complaints, so I surmise the bottoms were at least stamped with the brand.  You can still see the four figs at the bottom of this page: http://cgi.ebay.at/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=350314545375  Anyone know of a Grenadier code for this supposed pack?  I love the figs...

Trivia:   The NM017  Psycho Killers are Lizzie Borden, Jack the Ripper, and the Boston Strangler.

More Trivia: The NM025  Vile Villains are Fu Manchu, the Maltese Falcon, and the Shadow (or hypothesized by some as Van Helsing).  This guy wasn't in the original Sinister Gentlemen pack; instead, the old crypt caretaker (minus his lantern) was in this pack.  Compare: http://recipesrealm.com/wiki/index.php?title=Image:G-coc-204.jpg with http://recipesrealm.com/wiki/index.php?title=Image:G-nm-612.jpg

When I get some more time, I'll try to see if all the Grenadier CoC humans are all available other than those I've already noticed as missing from the Mirliton lineup.

Whoaa, I painted a lot of these investigators as a birthday present for a close friend (and GM) in 1986 ( I think ).

Nevertheless, I fear that they are closer to 25mm than 28mm

You mean this?

Yes, thanks.  The thing that was throwing me is the hanging scraps under the reaching arm and the angle of the photo shot.  Ignoring the dangling scrap for the moment, all the bandaging seems to follow the right directions.  So I'm thinking this is Copplestone's fig (he used to sculpt for Grenadier), but some graphic artist cut off the hang through either laziness to crop a background out or accidentally by assuming it was a blotch... Or maybe Copplestone remade his sculpt; the Bad Things I figs might be his last greens for Grenadier.

Did you compare that Copplestone ghost sculpt from Copplestone with Mirliton's UD037 pack?  There are two Grenadier figs missing from the Mirliton pack: the little pillar apparition found in the 207 Nightmares and the M18 ghost (http://recipesrealm.com/wiki/index.php?title=Image:G-dlfbs-2014z.jpg) reused in the 605 Ghosts & Apparitions (http://recipesrealm.com/wiki/index.php?title=Image:G-nm-605.jpg).  So all-in-all, there are 6 Ghosts & Apparitions to be had that are connected to the Nightmares lines.  As far as I can tell from my old catalogues, Grenadier made only two other ghosts:   MM29 Ghost (http://recipesrealm.com/wiki/index.php?title=Image:G-mm-1504b.jpg) and CH10 from the Chill boxed set (http://recipesrealm.com/wiki/index.php?title=Image:G-cn-8501z.jpg).

Here's the Mirliton's, containing two of the original Grenadier "Nightmares" (207 or 605 blisters).  Compare it with the Copplestone Bad Things I pic above:

Why Copplestone would keep only these Grenadier sculpt rights is beyond me.  Perhaps these slipped through his contracts and Mirliton bought the rights to reproduce them (but not to reproduce the molds)?  Not sure I want to know... sounds like a can of worms.  If the pricetags for Copplestone's figs were more in line with Murch's Pulp Figs, I'd buy more of them and the figs work well together.  Anyway... back to the Grenadiers at Mirliton.

Now looking at the figs side-by-side, I have another theory.  If a handful of artists worked on their greens from a 2-D concept rendering, then there would be several different versions of the same fig.  Perhaps Copplestone's wasn't chosen as the "winning" green.  That would also explain why the two larger Mirliton ghosts are so similar even to each other... and maybe why Copplestone's mummy has that bandage hang.  Same concept source, different sculpts by different artists.

I kinda feel bad for the folks who paid big bucks for the antique originals.

I have and I don't.  Think of it like the filtering down of technology.  The rich get it, then it becomes available to the masses.  Besides... outside of the CoC monsters that can't be substituted by figs from RAFM, em4 or Reaper (like Grenadier's Hunting Horror and the much better mi-go), there's only bragging rights to having the Grenadiers.  As for the humans, we have many other sculptors currently working in the Pulp era.

Excellent work, DreamingLeopard !

I just cannot believe the MiGo with bib and fork is available !!   I have been ACTIVELY trying to score that mini for almost thirty years !

The Mirilton site is incredibly sucky.  I went through and picked all the packs I wanted with the 'add to cart' button each time, then tried to check out and it then told me my cart was empty.  So I went BACK through, choosing fewer packs this time, but the 'ad to cart' buttons were now called 'buy now'.  Then Mirilton made me sign up giving all my information for an 'account' before I could see the shipping price.  It was awfully high, but I swallowed hard and continued to pay by paypal.  When I saw that they were charging me an ADDITIONAL 1.42 Euros because I chose paypal I gave them the e-Finger and bailed out.  Here's the invoice that scared me off:

Sub-Total: 17,08EUR
Registered Mail (Rate): 18,50EUR
Paypal fee: 1,42EUR
(net: 37,00EUR)
Total: 37,00EUR

Love the minis, HATE the rapacious ordering system.

Bosco 101, I just emailed you a preorder through your shop.

Yes, as I recall on my last order there, the buttons for Add to Cart in some places didn't work - you have to actually go to the description page and click the Buy there. I just tried it out and it seems to work now, but maybe the trouble is only for some items and not others.  As for the pricing, it is offset some by bulk discounts.  I expect this will promote distributors picking them up for us here overseas.  I think I'll reply to Mirliton with the url for this whole thread so they can see the comments.

Does Mirliton have a distributor in the USA?

I asked the same question on the TMP boards a couple of months back, and apparently the answer is: "no." Well, there are a couple of folks who have been known to stock Mirliton in the past, but their current status is questionable. Here's a link to that thread: The Miniature's Page (http://theminiaturespage.com/boards/msg.mv?id=191631)

Mirliton USA: http://my.att.net/p/s/community.dll?ep=87&subpageid=56615&ck=

After looking more at the new Mirliton releases, I've identified many more of them.
My report here is imminent... check here tomorrow.

Good call on the female... she is Metal Magic's C2002-1st-a
Adventuress from the C2002 Female Adventurers pack:
http://recipesrealm.com/wiki/index.php?title=Image:MetalMagic-C2002Ia.jpg

but she's not available at em4 miniatures (who have the Metal Magic's Dunwich Detectives)  ... nor at Mega miniatures (which has the Fantasy Metal Magic lines) My fingers are getting an itch to write another letter... :D

Link to Metal Miniatures figs:

I couldn't find the "Shadowrun" guy anywhere in the line.  Do you have a product code or a pic?

As for the other female, I can't find her anywhere, either.  From what pics are out there for reference, she's not Grenadier, Metal Magic, em4, Mega, Pulp Figures, Copplestone, Artisan, Citadel, Heritage or Partha.

A Call of Cthulhu Grenadier tease for my report tonight:
The long sought after Dimensional Shambler is to be found in Mirliton's NM044 Horror Monsters II pack.  :D

Actually, going from memory, she IS Grenadier.  Look at the shape and thickness of her base.  I have her painted and based, so can't read the bottom of her base.  She may have been Shadowrun, or more likely the SUPERHEROS line, whatever it was called.

Just to confirm that Mark Copplestone after the demise of Grenadier did reproduce a last number of his orginal sculpts throughout the ranges for the new company. Whilst many do bear a striking similarity, to be fair what would you expect as he's the sculptor!

Oh and I stay clear of Mirlton as on many occassions I've had virus warnings + italian post is ridiculous. If you want old grenadier and the cthulhu stuff go and see Tim at Miniatures heroes he'll sort you out.
