Post by: demi_morgana on 10 April 2010, 06:59:28 AM
hey all!

just wanted to share:
last night I saw martin scorsese's shutter island - I;ve been waiting for this picture for a long time and it was definitely worthy!!!
it's so cthulhish! beautiful and grim scenery should be great inspiration for all keeper of secrets here ;D
it could be easily placed in 1920s and turned into adventure!

if you haven't seen it yet - go to the cinema!!! :D

Absolutely! The setting, the story, the characters, the filming...all fantastic! One of the nicest movies I have seen in a while.

It's my main inspiration for a Call of Cthulhu RPG adventure where Threshold Agents (yes Mike, you read that right :P) are captured and placed in a mental institution by their enemies. Once they wake they don't know who they are, where they are and what they must do (escape, duh!). The main antagonists are Hastur worshippers (so the props I ordered from eBay will come in handy...link: http://shop.ebay.com/zarono/m.html?_nkw=&_armrs=1&_from=&_ipg=&_trksid=p3686 and http://stores.ebay.com/WitchCrafters_Cthulhu-Items_W0QQ_fsubZ12QQ_sidZ1713083QQ_trksidZp4634Q2ec0Q2em322).

Does anyone know, where the real fortress is located? I googled the movie locations, but the fortress was not among them. Maybe it is just computer-build.

From Wiki

Scenes were filmed at the old Medfield State Hospital in Medfield, Massachusetts. Scenes in Doctor Cawley's office were shot on the second floor of the chapel during the late evening; lights were shone on the windows to make it look like it was daytime. The surrounding brick walls in the outside hospital scenes were actually painted plywood which served the dual purpose of acting as scenery and blocking the set from view of a local road. Originally, scenes were going to be shot at the old Worcester State Hospital, but the filming would have gone on during the demolition of the surrounding buildings, which was impractical. Borderland State Park in Sharon, Massachusetts was used for the cabin scene. Peddocks Island was used as a setting for the story's island and East Point, in Nahant, Massachusetts for the lighthouse scenes.[8] Filming ended on July 2, 2008.[9]
