A pack of Pig Iron ferals and a pack of rebels, although I've mixed around some of the many separate head variants that come with the figures.
Very nice to paint :)

I'm trying to get my head round how they can all be painted in dull colours yet still be luminously bright. Beautiful.
-
Absolutely stunning. :-* Love the combination of bright and dull colours, gives them their distinctive "Captain Blood look".
Also a big thank you for the views from different angles. Finally convinced me to purchase some for myself.
What will you use them for?
-
Those are stunning. The colors really pop, but they still look raggedy and cruddy. I can't imagine a better paint job. :o
-
:-* :-* I like very much the colors and the cleaner of the paint.
God job!!!!!
-
Thanks chaps :)
Mad Doc - I'll use them alongside my Copplestone Future Wars figures for skirmishes. Stylistically a bit different, but match up well size-wise, and should fit in quite well with the Copplestone sewer scavengers etc.
-
I'm getting bored with typing this, but they are absolutely superb ::) lol
They would fit in nicely with the "Firefly" style universe, I think. I had the chance to pick some up at Triples, but ran out of money too soon >:(
Definitely on my "Future Wars" wish list. It's now so long I have had to break it down into more manageable wish lists - much like with my lead mountains lol
-
They are indeed absolutely stunning. I think they deserve both a :o and a :-*
@ Gluteus, are you saying your Lead Mountain is in fact an entire Lead Range? lol
-
I bought the same two packs and mixed them up and I agree - very nice to paint.
But I just couldn't get them right.
Yours are absolutely fantastic!
-
Not keen on the colours but very nice.
-
What a fantastic band of Brigands, I like :-*
-
I've saved this photos in order to help me paint better. Fantastic!

I could probably open a small shop and retire on the profits from selling it :(
-
Absolutely nice painting, Captain, smashing group of figures!
:-*
-
Very, very nice. ;D
-
yes they are very good 8)
like those a lot
there is no end to your talents ;)

I like those camo pants the one fellow has.
-
Lovely brushwork.
The previously mentioned camo patterns are ace too.
-
Great painting!
-
Great work as usual! Pure eye-candy, and they make me want to buy the minis!

Really nice work Captain
-
Very nice indeed I love the colour combinations.
-
:o :o :o
I've got some of these. I must find time to do them...
Great work mate!! ;)
-
Thanks all, for the kind comments :)
there is no end to your talents ;)
Well I've tried several times to learn to play a musical instrument, and failed every time ;)
-
Beautiful rich colours that are still natural and muted - superb! I know this is a very, very basic question, but is part of this effect a result of primer? If so, do you use white primer?
The minis themselves are very nice - I've had my eye on the Pig Iron models for a while, and after seeing your work on these, I'll have two eyes on them!

No, he uses black - and let it shine through for deep shadows.
But I think he uses paints with more pigment than GW paints contain, though ;)
-
WOW :-* :-* :-* those are really fantastic I bet they want these for there website.
-
@ Argonor - black, you say? Wow! The colours are so rich!
-
I think the richness comes from using contrasting layers (I don't know if you can call it that?) - you have the very dark recesses, then the - fairly dull - middle colour, and then the boldly applied much lighter layer. Makes the colour stand out
-
Actually, I use a white undercoat a lot of the time, with a thin black-brown wash 'wiped-off'.
But Argonor is right that I used a matt black car spray undercoat for these figures, drybrushed with Vallejo 'Flat Earth' to bring out the detail for painting - I find it just too difficult on the old eyes to paint on a pure black undercoat!
The highlighting process is much the same as that used by most people I think - I just tend to use more extremes, as Niels says.
You should also remember though, that owing to the miracle of digital photography, the colour intensity and contrast always comes up as a lot brighter and deeper in enlarged, on-screen images, than on the actual mini 'in the flesh'.
Thanks for the positive comments :)
-
I REALLY love this work. Its great that, while you do use brighter colors, the effect is still really badass and grungy.
Just curious, what colors did you use on the heavy armor that some of the gang are wearing?
-
Thanks, Argonor, and thanks, Captain - I like the idea of a light drybrush over black primer to bring up the detail. Sometimes it can be tricky to see, it's true. It's great to get tips like this, and to see such wonderful minis!
-
wonderful work!
-
Approved!
God damn it! lol
-

Ah, that's one of my favourite colours of the moment - it's a subtle pale blue-green in Anita's Craft Acrylic, called 'Ocean Blue'.
I don't normally like Anita's craft paints because they are gloopy and thinly pigmented, but this is such a nice versatile colour when mixed in with a bit of white :)
-
Thanks! That is very good to know. I have this color! Really like the effect on the armor. I just painted up a platoon of PI Heavy infantry and am a bit disappointed that they turned out so dark, especially their armor. I think your color choice really makes it stand out without ruining its grey, military feel.
Good stuff!
